I like it. Yes just looking at and comparing the two is an interesting compare and contrast.

1. picture: steel frame, chipped and scratched it must get used. Suntour Superbe, high end, modern KMC chain again this bike must get ridden not a
wall hanger. Small cassette 7 speed? that's all you need right.
So I see a straight forward more single purpose bike for riding fast.

2. picture: humm maybe not aesthetically pleasing, but I see options. Smooth modern shifting with wide gear choices, comfortable and light carbon frame.
So I see a bike with lots of potential giving the rider many options to choose from in the type of ride they wish to pursue.

I would gladly own either one of them.

My first real machine shifted gold plated( gold colored anodized, actually) suntour superbe pro. It was superbe!

Back in my racing days I was sponsored by SunTour and I loved that stuff. I used Superbe Pro on my MTB and flogged the crap out of it and it never missed a beat. It was simple and robust and looked just right.

The Rotor system works very well but I'm not sure what advantage there is to it. If you don't want cables (which work virtually perfectly now) then it's hard to beat electric and wireless electric at that.

From a purely aesthetic view..

1. Silver spokes, chrome, and...color! Love the chrome. Love the color. Wonder if the handlebar tape is white. Used to be quite a colorful peloton back in the day. Are those spokes soldered? Can't beat those quick release end caps. Wish the brake calipers were shown. Thinking of the clean look and hidden springs.

2. Black, black....black. Murdered out... No needing the sunglasses when that carbon frame is in the sun. Painted black parts seem to show the wear a bit more easily. Black lower count spokes. 1x spokes? Thru-axle to tighten things up a bit. I guess you need that with those disk brakes. Who needs to change a wheel quick!

I don't necessarily have an affinity for SunTour components, though I've used plenty back in the day, and they worked and looked swell. That Superbe RD just hits a certain desirable aesthetic. The Rotor not so much for me. I understand the evolutional challenge of choosing bicycle components solely for their aesthetics; technological progress would have halted in the 80's if we did so, but for god's sake, can't we have both?

Here is a new rear derailleur that I've been working on. It lifts the chain from one cog to another. It has a little nuclear power plant to achieve the heavy-lifting.

Gios compact with superbe looks great and will go for miles. Rotor group is interesting but I do not like the looks of it both aesthetically and mechanically. It looks fragile.

The Superbe is attached to a Colnago. That SunTour stuff did go for the long run!

To further your point, a pic of a beautiful Superb Pro crank vs whatever (Rotor?) on the second bike would really drive the point home. Had three bikes with Superb. Kicking myself for not keeping any of it.

DTH on Ateks on my (Panasonic) Paramount runaround.

Better yet, after many years and many builds on that frame, I picked up a barely used but tiny version of the same bike (from here even)...so it's now back to nearly 100% OEM XC-Pro! Wonderful stuff for sure.

And I still have my Suntour grease gun from when it was new!
