The Ultegra road disc calipers come with thread-in pad axles. Shimano does not provide replacement thread-in axles with new pads.

Can I use the split-cotter pins on Ultegra calpers??

The split cotter pins seem like a much better design for the purpose AND nearly universally available at auto parts and hardware stores. I've never really understood how much stress is on these bolts/cotter pins.

Second question. What is your favorite disc-pad for road/gravel??

I’ve always reused the thread in bolts. Never had a problem.

use the thread in ones, they are supposed to have a clip on them so they can't back out. There is very little stress on them. They are there to ensure pad alignment and make sure they don't fall out during installation. While braking, the pads are held in place by the disc/pistons and spring clip. If you were to remove the pin, while the brake is in use, you'd see nothing actually change.
