I thought this was a pretty cool move from a company who has thus far only made cool-kid fixed gear bikes. Instead of following the Prolly gravel / adventure road of post-fixed gear scene they released an 8sp DT shifter 1x commuter. It looks great. There isn't much else out there like this, and it's $549. I hope it introduces people to a simpler way of riding around for the sake of riding around.

It looks rad:

Thoughts?

Eh, Pure Cycles (formerly PureFix, right?) went and did a 2x8 roadie with Claris brifters for the same price a few years ago. The State looks more stylish, but seems underspec'ed in comparison. The Pure doesn't mention butted tubing, so it's probably straight gauge gaspipe. Maybe it's just a tossup.

Looks like white saddles and bar tape are all the rage.

Good price point, nice saddle upgrades, what's not to like?

Rack bosses. I may buy one. They have nearly completed a trail all the way to my office.

Agree with jtbadge. Not many modern bikes selling with dt shifters. Why not spec with claris/sora or an apex 1x group?

it wont sell well. i promise you.

linus tried it with the libertine. 3 years after discontinuing it there was still stock.

Claris/Sora/Apex puts the bike at a price point that's significantly farther outside the $550 price point. Unless you're one of the big 3 -- or walmart.

Shimano/Sram aren't winners at this price point. There's a dead zone that starts somewhere just above $600 and extends through $8-900 unless you're doing something rad.

1x without a clutch or a narrow wide and last years all city paintjob? hmm.

that looks great, funny that they have adapted the spec to the way people modify old road bikes when they become commuters, great price point.

"all city paint job"......? You know All City was just rehashing old Peugeot and Merkx color schemes right? Everyone gets "inspiration" from somewhere.

Hakuna matata. You can't go wrong with 1x and a downtube shifter. :)

People considering this bike may not know what a narrow-wide-chaninring-clutch-derailleur are, or, even whom all city is. I think they'll do fine with moving these.

I think this is a good idea. Does anyone know if there is a bike like this but in a higher grade tubing?

I was always a fan of the earlier Kona Honky Tonks. Pretty simple, good looking, solid bikes.

Any number of vintage road bikes with the front shifter and one of the chainrings removed would be my guess
