Super nice but looks like not threaded headset? That's a crime to me since they are going ultra super classic elegant top of the top type of frame you know.

Any idea on how much, I’m guessing 3K?

I would rather have David Kirk or Dave Wages build me a classic lugged frame for the price.

2800 euro for a Columbus SL frame? Is this something that should impress me?

(Price was not on their website last time I looked, as if, if you have to ask, you can't afford it...)

I was close, 3144 US. I agree, Custom makes more sense but it sure is pretty

All personal opinions, and both are great builders. But Battaglin is no slouch and has more than enough racing pedigree to satisfy me - something that is important for me when purchasing this kind of frame.

As others have commented on other threads, I don’t think it is useful to speak about price - Italians have to live and eat too, but it comes down to what speaks to the heart on a purchase like this.;)

And... this may be sacrilege - made to measure is always nice but not at all necessary for most humans.

Had the money, had threaded headset I would buy this one, the chrome work looks really well done, paint job aswell.

Get a classic builder to make you a modern steel bike. That covers all the bases.

Sure, you could try and get a US frame, but it wouldn't have the chromovelato finish. Most US builders don't seem to offer chroming as an inexpensive finish any more, so if you want that look, you have to go to Italy or the UK (or Marinoni). These are also engraved nicely :)

The text does say these will be custom to each of the buyers, with consultation from Battaglin himself.

Guess it comes down to how much folks want Italian custom lugged steel.

Super gorgeous but way more of luxury than this guy would pay for. Be afraid to ride it

And those that offer that type of finish charge a pretty penny...

Look at the surcharge list (https://waterfordbikes.com/pricing/) at Waterford, for example.

I prefer polished stainless to chromed anyway, but it's not like the custom frame world is overflowing with options at $3100 with that level of finishing.

If I had extra funds and room for an all-steel roadie, I'd be dialing up a Spectrum before the door closes (best $3K comparison I guess).

Still, to each their own, and the Battaglin certainly isn't "overpriced" for what it is.

There are options out there.

For example, SOMEC makes a gorgeous steel frame. https://www.somecstore.com/en/34-2037-somec-top-class-frame-with-fork-emerald-green-glossy.html

Their Top Line, which I believe is fully chromed underneath a chromovelato-type finish, is 1280 euros, or about $1450, and is fully custom built to your measurements. Comes in green, red and blue but they say they'll also do other colors. I've seen a few in person and they are stunning.

Faggin is another long time custom builder. They make a really nice Spirit/Max tubed frame, also fully custom, similar finish, similar price: http://www.fagginbikes.com/portfolio/doge/

That one looks like it’s a limited run of 38 frames; hence the price premium. I’m sure a buyer could get the fork threaded if desired. As Doc noted above, there are other quality Italian builders out there and I’m sure you could get a Battaglin without the GdI upgrade for less. Last time I looked, a production Tommasini steel frame was around $2300.

Veloclasique is the rep for somec, and you can go custom in their steel stuff. Seen a couple of those chromed somec at the shop and the thing rocks.

+ some italians do made to measure as well for no upcharge as long as the measurments are provided.
