View Full Version : Need Seatpost With More Setback?

Still fine tuning my Fierte and find the Carbon Bontager seat post it came with has 20mm mm of setback. Consequently I have the saddle pushed almost all the way back and still feel the need for a bit more length and reach. Not only does the saddle pushed back all the way look a bit tacky, but I'm concerned about that much stress/leverage on the front of the saddle.

I don't care for the Seatposts that are angled back so I'm looking for a carbon post that has a head setback of at least 30mm. Any recommendations.

Thanks.

An old Easton EC70 has the most setback I've found in a CF post. Spec says 25mm, but it's more like 30mm+.

Thanks donevwil,
It does look like slightly longer setback but all the info online from Easton itself says 20mm. I believe the standard measurement is from center of the bolt to center line on the post. Could you measure if you still actually have the post?

Thx.

Fizik has one in the 25mm range, PAUL makes one with a 26mm setback and Velo Orange has one in the 30mm range.

I use two aluminum ones (one EA70 and one EA50) on my wife's bikes so we could run Brooks saddles. There are a LOT of Easton posts out there, you need to make sure it's the one shown previously, either carbon fiber (EC..) or aluminum (EA..) shaft with polished setback head. Don't confuse it with the more recent one shown below.

I'll measure it tonight but I recall 28-32mm (seat tube angle dependent) and these replaced 25mm "advertised" posts.

What diameter do you need? I have an 27.2 mm Cervelo branded FSA one that came brand new on a Cervelo R3 that has 30 mm setback I believe. Way too much for me so I swapped it for a 0 offset.

I have one of those older ec70 seatposts available in 27.2
Also have a 3t stylus team stealth in 25mm setback in 27.2

Nitto makes this with 45mm setback: http://freshtripe.co.uk/nitto-s84-lugged-seatpost-27-2mm/

I thought it was not recommended to use saddle setback to adjust reach? It would affect your normal pedal stroke. Unless that bike’s seat tube angle is super steep or something.

FSA K-Force 32mm Setback

It's been made in different finishes for years. The post has a sturdy two-bolt design, it's pretty elegant looking and light (209g for a 27.2/250mm model I once owned).

I've used the FSA K force post, 3T Dorico LTD and the Canyon S13 VCLS. All have loads of setback (30mm or more) and are decent quality. Go for the 3T if you want something under 200g though (but the clamp is a bit more finicky than the other two).

More setback if your knees can take the adjusting. Usually on smaller frames with steeper STA 74.5 or more, setback might need to be increased. Doesn't sound like the OP is adjusting for reach on his first go around, just trying to get the knees comfortable.

WR Compositi RS has the most setback, at 37mm.

Besides those already mentioned above, Look Ergoposts and Syntace P6 have setback in the 30mm+ range.

All these are really good seatposts.

Bike too small? You normally ride a post with more than 20mm of setback?

Sorry if I am being nosey

THere is an ITM ergo something, that thing goes all the way from to 45... the craddle can be moved back, same happen with some look carbon ones. But the ITM is insane... there is an old nitto that I think has 45 or 50....

Correction, the seatpost is a Selcof Biposizzione... cant find pictures but i have one moving around.

Here it is...

Bike is a 48cm but has a shorter TT than my 48cm LOOK 585. It's certainly rideable but I always feel a touch cramped and KOP is more forward than I like. It's not just the reach to the bars.

Thanks all for your great suggestions.

Will add another recommendation for the FSA K-Force 32mm setback post. Have used these in carbon and alloy in the past.

Smaller frames having 74-75 degree STAs has never made sense to me, but that's what most brands sell, so I've always used a 25 or 32mm setback. The FSA k-force models work great.

LOOK used to put a 72.5 degree STA on all sizes. I had a KG381 briefly and most likely used a zero setback on it.

Buying a larger frame isn't the answer. I usually have a -6 or -17 degree stem with little or no spacers under the stem. These days, stack and reach tell me how the frame will fit and STA only tells me what seatpost setback I need. With 74.5 STA, I can use 25 or 32mm.

I have the fsa post on 3 of my 4 bikes. Both smalls have the 32 setback and the post is flawless. I swapped out their yokes and cradles with (significantly) lighter ones (carbon cradle, darimo/ax/mcfk yokes) with no issues.
