I have been riding in foul weather so much over the past year that I am seriously considering offloading my fenderless roadie (JP Weigle) and setting down with another fender bike such as the Rambouillet...can't afford or wait for a bike from Peter.

Name some frames that you believe offer a similar function and performance as the Riv as I am on the hunt and I appreciate the input. Essentially I'm looking for lugged steel, fenders, rack(s) and fatter tires...you know the drill. Discs not required but long reach brakes would be preferred over cantis.

Thanks

Black Mountain Cycles has at least two models that match, minus lugs.

Riv Romulus was very similar to Rambo except for a couple of tubes that were NOT heat-treated on Rom. Roms were sold as almost complete bikes vs. frame and fork like Rambo. There were also some Roms with cantis but most were for medium-reach dual pivots.

You might find a Waterford or Gunnar RS or touring model with steel fork and fender eyelets. Serotta Rapid Tour?

It's not lugged but the Soma Smoothie/ES tick the other boxes.

If this fits I think it would be a tough deal to beat for what you want to do.

Plush, comfy, functional, versatile, pretty, cheaper than a set of wheels ....what else can one ask for?

What size do you ride? Riv bikes are measured c-t so my 62 Rambo is more like 60.5x58.5 and since they have quill stems it's easy to adjust the fit quite a bit.

We're going to build up a Crust Nor'easter for my BIL.

Might be worth looking into for you as well.

This Riv Saluki is going up for sale. Think it's a 62.
Belongs to a really good friend, built it up for him originally. He can no longer ride and has asked me to help him sell it. Will have details, pics, etc. later this week once I pick it up.

The Rambouillet was good in its day, but it's not the bees knees compared to currently offered steel bikes like BMC, Gunnar, etc ... unless lugs and two-tone paint are the priority.

Black Mountain Cycles has at least two models that match, minus lugs.

Ebisu road? The Jitensha site says 28c + fenders, and you can add centerpull braze-ons as an option.
