What detergent do you guys use to get the smell out of your synthetic material? I've tried "Ecos" (an environmentally friendly product) and "Cheer Colorguard". "Cheer" works better, but I still stink. I would prefer something without perfume; but if that is what it takes, I will use it.

everyone gives Sandy plenty of space to ride. There's no pace lining with that boy. :D

Smells like you need to replace the wringer on the 'ol washer.

Assos has a cleanser for synthetics that works very well. I was all my cycling shorts/jerseys in the sink with it and voila -- no more noxious odors (from the clothes, at least). Yes, it's not cheap, but a bottle has lasted me a good six months of riding 4-6 days a week. The real test was whether it could get the stink out of the clothes I use on the indoor trainer, and it passed.

best,

Jeff

synthetic materials may wick moisture, but damn, they hang onto stink. we should call this the martha stewart thread, but ladies, i've found that tide HE (high efficiency) liquid works washday miracles. i'm gonna go out and shoot myself now. if we start exchanging recipe tips, i'll turn the gun around the other way. you've been warned.

I throw my stuff in the wash with everything else and I don't notice any residual smells. And my wife would certainly tell me if she did :D .

. . . but not very much of it, wash on the gentle cycle all in cold water, then hang dry everything. Works great. If Occasionally, if I'm lazy and anticipate riding again the next day, then I just rinse out and hang dry. If I'm washing something I just bought on eBay, then I use more detergent and let it soak for 30 minutes.

. . . No need to worry. I will quickly be so far ahead of you that there will be PLENTY of time for the odor to dissipate!

Arm & Hammer liquid laundry detergent seems to keep my bike clothes odor free.

Most of you wear your cycling shorts or jerseys more than once??

My butler throws them away after each ride.

All laundry:
1/4 cup Woolite liquid soap with 1 tsp each of: lavendar essential oil, tea tree essential oil / load of laundry. Mmmm, my house smells good on laundry day.

NOTHING gets past that drill.

. . . when his butler went on strike and locked Sandy out of the house, leaving him glumly sulking out on the street without his bike clothes . . .

I don't know what you guy's are into, but none of my cycling gear stinks, and it gets washed with the rest of my clothes in whatever detergent is around - nothing special.

Mine washes normally too. However I stink like rum on most Saturday morning rides....the same rides I use the worn out see through bib shorts on...

Sandy told me that all cycling clothing is self-cleaning.

Sandy,

Why do you wear your oven when you go riding?

All kidding aside, I wash my cyling clothes with just plain old Tide.

Machine wash, line dry. Even the polypro, which in the winter tends to get sweaty and really smelly. Never had a problem.

I use "fabreese" to get rid of smells, in addition to any detergent used.....

It works

if you must put your kit in the dryer...do not use dryer sheets. They will ruin the wicking properties.
