I saw a piece on a Mac community forum this morning,
pointing to an ad for a BenQ mp3 player that's shaped
like a 'dog tag'.

My mouth hangs open when i look at it.

http://www.benq.com.cn/musiq/

What moron thought that using a 9/11 image of the world
trade center ruins would be a good idea to sell music players?

Boggles my mind.

it's certainly lame, but no doubt a result of cluelessness rather than malice

asia is not the west. a lot of stuff gets "lost in translation", going both directions

this is probably a situation where they should've hired a marketing person with experience marketing products to the west

it's just a very lame mistake--hopefully they'll realize it

btw, macsurfer.com was always good website for links to apple news
.

Think global, act local. They are doing it the other way around. Very stupid ad indeed.

gSLightly off subject, but...

My wife and I are walking through a mall in suburban Rochester today, and pass a kiosk selling "moving" paintings - you know, with the lightbox behind a semi-translucent section. Makes it look the the water's actually going over the falls, the waves are rippling, etc...

Anyway, there's one of the NYC skyline with the lights shining heavenward where the twin towers used to stand. And the artist has overlayed daisys and stylized suns over a number of the rooftops on the skyline.

W! T! F!

No - that was a different kiosk. Seriously. (why don't I spend more time in malls?)

His stuff is, oh, 100x better than what I described. Sorry I didn't have a camera...

It was a variation of this (http://www.moving-waterfall-pictures.com/inc/sdetail/283). Only less artful.

An Ad agency was pitching to Mitsubishi to get their account.
The exec in charge thought he'd open the meeting with a "joke" idea
to introduce Mitsubishi to the Amercian market. You know connect
Mitsubishi with an event every American knows about and Mitsubishi was involved in.

"From those Wonderful Folks who gave you Pearl Harbour"

The Mitsubishi execs were not amused.

NB; the Japanese Zero was a Mitsubishi product.
Fuji Heavy Industries, aka Subaru was formerly named Nakajima, as in dive bombers.
