As I swap out the Record 11 bits for Shimano on my Firefly, I decided to change the crankset also since the Campy is 172.5 and I prefer 170. I really don't like the aesthetics of the current 4 arm cranks in either the Campy or Shimano product lines, they are so bulked up. So I just bought a slightly used SRAM Red Exogram on ebay, set up 46-36, and ordered the 34T inner to get the gearing I want. It's 5 arm and a lot more refined looking to my eye, and the graphics are toned down (especially for SRAM!)

Too Frankenbike?

That's what I thought too. I looked around for nice-looking cranks that were lightweight, not ridiculously expensive, 110 BCD or similar, and ones where preferably I could use chainrings made by the crank manufacturer, and this is where I ended up.

I say its probably fine. and that sure is a pretty crank!

I run this setup on my Gravel rig for the same styling reasons you mentioned. The Red crank is also lighter. Sram Red 46/34 with Red 11/32 Cassette and the shifty bits are 9170.

I just put some electrical tape on the Red graphics and nobody is the wiser

I use Red Quarq cranks on my otherwise all DA 9000 bike. I think it looks fine.

I had a Sram-armed SRM on my Shimano drivetrain for years. All good. Sram and Praxis rings.
