My Diadora carbon shoes are pretty hard on my feet. What do you like as a relatively thin insole/insert?
Thanks!

I use yellow Superfeet in all my cycling shoes. Don't know how relatively thin they would be.

I've tried them all over the years and the Giro SuperNatural footbed kit is really nice. Maybe as good as any custom (for me) I've had though the downside is they breakdown fairly quickly.

The Giro come witth three arch inserts. I like that.

Superfeet - I like them on dirt/mtb but not on the road - too hard in the forefoot.

Specialized custom insoles. I was getting "hot spots" on my feet with my Sidi shoes... bike shop had a solution.

+1 on Specialized footbeds. Good support without eating up much shoe volume at all. Durable, too.

I've been very happy with my Icebug insoles.

Yet another vote for Specialized. Unless you're confident of which degree of arch you have, start with the lowest model, and go up from there.

One easy way to determine your arch degree is to dampen the soles of your feet (merely wipe them with a sponge) and step on a brown paper bag to leave an imprint.

I think, in ascending order, it's blue, red, green.

I use Specialized BG in my main pair of SIDI shoes, but I would definitely not call them "thin".

I also have a pair of eSoles that I got custom made 7 or 8 years ago, and they move around between my other three pairs of shoes. Definitely much thinner than the Specialized BG footbeds...but almost 5x the price. (Are eSoles even still made?)

Piling on for Specialized. When I bought my first pair, my LBS had a Specialized floor mat that you stood on to make an imprint of your feet. The imprint was used to recommend which of three insole shapes were best for your feet. The blue Specialized BG insoles were perfect for me. I now have them in all my cycling shoes. No more hot spots!

I used the Giros but found there was not enough support.
I use these Birkenstock supports. They have 2 types - 1 that focuses on the arch and another on the metatarsal. They're made of cork. Heel area is very thin so minimal heel elevation.

I like that you can use them on their own and not lose any toe room or get the blue insole that is shaped to conform to the support.

I think its actually red, blue, green, but good call on finding the arch. How do you translate that to the red, blue, or green?

I like eSoles which are unfortunately out of production. Another brand recommended by Steve Hogg is:

https://blog.bikefit.com/g8-2620-pro-series-orthotic-insoles/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwyoHlBRCNARIsAFjKJ6Bez2QxWAyRcg4_-0BEe61mVrmQT97WGtIUo95QPhUUO_EDLBqrzG8aArcbEALw_wc B

I will probably try the G8s next when my current insoles wear out.

I use the G8 2600s (older model) and like them quite a bit for their adjustable arch support. The insoles come with at least 4 different arch heights which can be shifted around horizontally instead of being fixed to one spot. I use the highest arch, which no other insole seems to match (even Specialized BG+++).

The insoles, however, are very thick, to the point where using them in shoes that fit fine before made them too small afterwards. They are thicker than Specialized footbeds and way thicker than Superfeet blacks. My feet are higher volume, so it got pretty uncomfortable.

The construction of the heel is multi-layered, with fabric and then foam on top of a rigid plastic base. I remove my insoles after each ride to air them out, and over time the layers have started to separate slightly from being shoved in and out of my shoes.

Is there anything out there with tunable arch support and a VERY thin sole? I have tremendously high arches/insteps and my right foot is missing the navicular bone so it's even worse. Add to that I have a narrow forefoot and heel...The older, italian Fizik shoes fit me well, but those aren't available any more...

I've have had numerous pairs of custom orthotics over the years both on and off the bike, I've had lots of foot problems.

I can never manage to get Superfeet to work for daily wear/running/gym but the Bontrager insoles which are made by Superfeet have been working really well for me.

The key vs other Superfeet seems to be that they've got the same design available in 3 different arch shape/heights.

The Superfeet are pretty thin which seems to really be necessary for cycling. Thickness of the orthotic has been a big issue with custom orthotics. Most custom orthotics are built with a flat bottom, that' doesn't work in cycling shoes which rarely have a flat bottom. The insert needs to have it's bottom shaped to match the curve of the bottom of the shoe while still adapting that curve to make it match your arch (and being solid). The Bontrager Superfeet ones seem to do this for me.

I like the Sole (https://yoursole.com/us/mens/footbeds) heat moldable low volume footbeds for my cycling shoes. Not sure how they work for people needing support for high arches, but they fit me in Sidis and Lakes nicely.

Another Icebug user here. For non-custom, one of the best, imho.

My problem with shoes in general specially cycling ones is the heel... the heel in all the shoes cant wrap my heel right and fit is always weird, after adding foam and different experiments to increase the heel fit. BTW depends on the shoe too...

What I ended up doing is to put smaller insoles, im a 45 i ended up testing a 36 insole just because and the way the shoe wrapped around my heel changed right away. Then cut the front of another insole to make it up for the difference... after one ride i couldnt notice the joint anymore.

The nice about using the smaller insole was that the arch got in the right place, my arches are flexible and tend to be like 5mm to 1cm further back than in any insole. Need to test those german insoles for cycling, those things have the arch pretty much at the back...

The smaller insoles I go were insole, the plastic insert ones bontrager has in their shoes.

Home this helps.

Thanks All!
I ordered the Green +++ Specialized BG SL. I liked the damp foot method of determining whether one has high, medium, or flat arches!
