View Full Version : Lamenting the paucity of inch steer tube stems.

I have a one inch steer tube and a custom brazed decaleur that slides over the steer tube like a spacer. It is steel and thin. I got some stainless Simworks spacers also which match nicely. Aside from looking a little goofy with a comparatively beefy alu shimmed 1.125 stem, the spacers are no thicker than the shim and so slide right under the stem when you snug up the headset. I put typical alu spacers on there which are thicker but the transition from the thin steel decaleur to thick alu spacer looks like bad plumbing.

I bought an old Salsa brazed cro-mo stem on ebay which is one solution. I would probably paint it or at least remove the decals. But I think I prefer the angle of the alu IRD stem on there now. One idea is to have one made. I've sure seen some beautiful ones by, for example, Eric Estlund

Another idea is to bond the shim to the stem. That's sort of not ideal. Any thoughts, ideas?

Thanks, but I have the spacers, which was the focus of that thread.

Quite a few good old new and used 1" threadless stems out there with all sorts of angles(Salsa, Kelly, Ibis, etc.), what extension and angle are you looking for? I recently bought a 1" 90mm Kelly right here.

100mm. Will either be the 73 for parallel or the 90 for no spacers. Will likely at least try the Salsa that I ordered.
