SHIMANO BIKE FIT Seen at NAHBS
Shimano to fit a rider to a bike has that person ride a special bicycle
Has you ride it measures your power output at a steady rpm
and has you ride (without getting off) they vary the length of the cranks by hydraulics Raise and lower saddle Move saddle back and forth
Etc.
All while measuring your power output
when your maximum power output at a steady cadence is know (get this) they search their data base of all known bicycles from the majors bike manufactures and find one that fits per above criteria
wow that is being fitted correctly

when i got my mariposa back in the day, mike barry sat me on a piece of crap exercycle , watched me spin for 20 sec . and told me we were done.
the bike fit like a glove

I sent Dazza a few measurements that he needed and some info on my (then) current set up, he made a few suggestions and that was it.

And......................the frame fitted (and still fits) like a glove :)

Sure......
But I wanna try shimanos way.
First with my bikes numbers plugged in and then optimized their way, and see how much power I've been wasting because it "felt" ok

Agreed.

Along those same lines, I wonder if a rider's "max power output for least effort input" geometry always matches his/her "kindest to the knees" geometry?

Guru has had similar in the market for a number of years

Very expensive for LBS to license the software

Does it also tell me which cereal (from all the major manufacturers) to eat based on a stool sample?

We are doomed.

The problem is that the position for optimal power out may not be same position as optimal comfort. There are a lot of interacting variables at play for power output over long durations that may not be measured and captured by this device.

+1. My initial thought, exactly.

And there is no way you could keep a steady output while all this is going on.
RPM, maybe. Power output, I don't think so.
Marketing at its finest.
Our bodies ability to adapt to variation in fit is almost seamless. I have never believed there is a 'perfect' fit for all scenarios on a bike. My position is different on bikes I use for different purposes, each having different priorities.

Like the Guru there is also the Vertex Fit Cycle: http://vertexfitsystems.com/

That and the muscles will be more likely to want to be in the position they are currently used to.

This sounds very similar to the Guru fit, which is what I did before I bought my C60 a few years ago. In my case the fitter made small adjustments, then we looked at power over a few minutes at a time. I also stretched and had a good warm up period. The screen showed power output independently for left and right cranks, and I think that it showed push/pull as well, but I might not be remembering correctly.

I am very happy with the results, but I don't think that power measurement is a replacement for a good fitter watching you on the bike.

was the Guru fit on the fit bike with similar capabilities - the hydraulics etc? Mt LBS got one of the first ones installed. I dontthink it is used for anywhere near what it can do. maybe too expensive? not sure.

theoretically, they should be able to laser your existing bike/and touch points, then replicate it on the fit bike. make adjustments for weight balance, comfort and power.

now, either spit out a CAD you could send to a builder OR find a stock bike in the database that most closely mimics the fit data.

Was expecting something way more finished and sleek given Shimano's usual insistence on endless refinements until the product is ready for optimal operation.

I bet you could get a better bike fit off of this old doozy.....

Yes, hydraulics to change positions, all recorded digitally. They had a database of bikes that gave me the frame size, stem, handle bar, etc. needed for my position. I also have a pdf with the measurements that I have used for multiple bikes since then. I use a $40 laser level from harbor freight to replicate and adjust position.
