Dropper measurement help?

I would like to upgrade my Specialized dropper on my Banshee Phantom. It’s a 125mm model. Am I correct in thinking that if I want to go up to 170mm travel, I simply need to ensure that I have 45mm of surplus length on my 125mm dropper (meaning that I could go to 170mm without bottoming out the collar of the dropper on the seat clamp?

I was planning to buy an e13 TRS dropper and would love the clean look Of a long travel post, though I do t feel that having 170mm travel is necessary on this bike.

Most manufacturers have measuring instructions on their website that tell you what your minimum collar to saddle height is. Varies from brand to brand, not as simple as just adding the difference in travel.
