Yeah. I saw that article and just shook my head. So not fair. I wonder if the opposite happened if they'd have stopped the men.

If a man had been catching the earlier race, they would have stopped the race also. You cannot mix races that started at different times like that. Especially a "higher" category being caught by a lower category.

I'm sure it will get up to 6-7 threads as the story slowly spreads

Many USCF races use staggered starts, with several fields on the course at the same time. The usual system is to have the higher category groups start before the lower category groups. Several times I've heard the officials tell a group lining up for their start that if they are caught by the following group, that the caught group will be neutralized to allow the catching group to pass them. If somebody in the group complains about the prospect of being neutralized, the officials usually say something like, "If you don't want to get neutralized, then ride faster".

If the men's race at Omloop didn't want to get caught they should have ridden faster. If they allowed themselves to get caught, then they had essentially neutralized themselves, and should suffer the consequences.

Truth! It's like the race equivalent of a Grant Petersen thread.

has the story hit the non-cycling clickbait sites yet?
