I have a black FSA stem with graphics on it. How do I determine whether they are removable, vs. under a clear coat, or some other application that I can't get off without ruining the base color?

I'm not sure I've seen a paint FSA stem. They are usually anodized with the logos etched in. In that case removal becomes more difficult.

This is what it looks like

M, I doubt seriously it is clearcoated. Could be painted on. I've used acetone to take off logos from stems (outdoors...). Those were paint. You could try scraping it in an obscure spot with a single edge razor blade and see if it comes off like a decal or if it seems more like paint.

What about the white on this Zipp SL Speed stem?

Over clear coat screened on or under?

I've removed the paint from an FSA stem like that with acetone, rag, elbow grease and patience.

Got it, can confirm acetone will do the trick however you may find the finish blotchy/dull in the area of the logos. You may have to rub it back to a smooth finish.

Confirmed that the White/Red decals on the zipp sl speed stems are not removable with 100% acetone.
