I began standing at the bench in 1972. Here I am 47 years later. To my left are two I just finished. That's the end of the list. I made it. Not everyone made it. I did. Alas.

Real happy for you. What an accomplishment!

Well done Sir:hello: I've said hi to him a few times at some of the bigger CX races in NE. Always willing to chat, very personable, and a builder of a beautiful bikes. His CX team bikes just ooze with class. Next year i age up to 60+ so I'll be able to line up in the starting grid him.

Congrats and enjoy! Just a few days ago I stumbled across a pic of my son and Richard at 2009 NAHBS. My son has added about 1’ in height and 100 lbs of mostly muscle. Richie looks just the same!

I’m pleased to say that Richard builds outstanding bikes and I’m happy that he completed his list! I hope after he takes some time to do other things that he decides to light his torch up again.....even if it is just at a much less hectic pace.
Cheers my friend!!

Good job Richard!

A few years ago, I decided that I wanted (needed) a custom steel bike. Yours was at the top of the list because they were so beautiful. I ordered your illustrated catalogue and Imperfection is Perfection dvd (which were great). But the wait list was so long that I passed. Not sure that I would still be riding bikes when my number came up.

I ended up getting bikes from K. Bedford instead. To me, the bikes were also beautiful and the process was great. I imagine that you consider him a worthy contemporary.

Anyway, congratulations on your success and best wishes for your future.

Big time congrats on accomplishing the feat and perfecting the craft. I love how your design has changed so little, and that the skills taught were honed along the way but still true to how you were taught.

Terrific. I had the great pleasure of meeting you for the first time, Richie, early on at the Philly BikeExpo in the fall. It was a fun chat wherein I learned that you had a history in Burlington (tune up the wayback machine) and that you were on this count down. Many congrats for completing the list! Have a great break and reset period. Today, I’ll break out my cool orange RS t-shirt! I’m keen to see what you do next.

eh?

sounds more like a seemingly endless mountain of work is finally finished.

I wonder what that feels like. Must be good.

It ain't like he's closing up shop (like Spectrum), he just finished the queue that's been around since 2008(ish).

Bravo, this is very cool. It warms my heart that builders like Sachs, Kellogg, and Duser can enjoy a long and storied career and hang it up at the height of their abilities on their own terms.

Nearly 50 years, an incredible body of work, and people still lining up for your bikes. Sincere respect and congrats. You deserve it Richard !

My sincere best wishes on your future endeavors! Thank you for years of advice, insight, and knowledge both here and across the hall. I am very grateful for the contributions that cycling artisans like Richard, Dave Kirk, Tom Kellogg, Dave Wages, the late-great Dario Pegoretti (and many others) have made on this forum.

Congratulations to a great long career in an ever changing market. Only a handful of builders stuck with what they believed in regardless of trends....he was one of the main ones. Is there someone to pass that torch on to...

Congrats bossEither the one on the left or the one before the one on the left is mine (now with Joe Bell).

Congrats Richard for finally getting to the end of the tunnel. Looking forward to seeing where the road takes you next!
