Panaracer sale at Excel Sports, https://www.excelsports.com/main.asp?page=8&description=EVO+Competition+SX+Tire&vendorCode=PANARACE&major=1&minor=27

I see now that I should have put this in the good deals thread sticky. So, mods feel free to append it there.

Kirk pal's word is good enough for me. Bought 4 - 2X28mm, 2X25mm

Thanks for the link, Ed pal.

I would say they're like the Compass with the normal casing not the extralight casing. Excel has Panaracer EVO Competition SX in 25s and 28s. I have the 25s which measure out almost 28 on Boyd rims and they are spectacular. If the Compass extralight are even better I'd be blown away. These Panaracers are the nicest clincher I've used and at $42 an absolute steal.

I got the email two and bought a set to try out as well as some Gravel Kings to try out for $32 each. They have the Evo Race gravel tire for $34. I have a set and have been pleased.

I ordered 4 of the 28mm tires. I'm hoping they'll plump up to around 30mm on my vintage box section rims. Normally I like black sidewalls, but these are really nice.

I'd like to see the 32mm Race A Evo Gravel tire come back into stock too!

Y'all are tempting me like crazy, but I've valued flat resistance over #supplelife lately. My rides are too short to spend 10 minutes fixing a flat. I wonder how these would ride with a tube doped with just a bit of sealant in them or if that would defeat the purpose of such light tires.

They also have good prices on the 2-pack Vittoria G+, either Corsa or Control. Free shipping over $100.

Try out the Evo Gravel tires. Nice combo of go fast and durability.

To be honest I think these actually have pretty decent flat protection. At least as much as Corsa G+

I am so tempted but I already have probably two years worth of Schwalbe One 28mm and Panaracer Evo Gravel 32mm to get through.

Are these that good they are worth hoarding for a later date?

very tempting at this price, but i have a new resolution to not buy anything i do not intend to immediately use, and i have way more tires than i will ever wear out in the next several years.

let us know how they ride to anyone who bought a pair. i would specifically be interested in a comparison to the current vittoria G+ offerings...

At that price I picked up 4. I've had great experiences with the EVO A. Nice tires and a great company still making tires by hand with Japanese quality.

I think they blow the socks off the vittoria G+ (but keep in mind I must be the one outlier who thinks the G+ at least the 27mm ones are the definition of meh, particularly on wet pavement - I would never buy another pair).

I rode these panacer in 25s across France and Italy last summer - super ride and good durability.

I see that there are 32mm Evo3 Race A Gravel tires sold as singles on the site. I kept looking for that size in the 2-pack listing and didn't find it. It's very peculiar how they package and price tire offerings there. Singles, 2-packs, 4-packs... not all sizes offered in all combinations, and the pricing doesn't always discount the volume packs - sometimes it costs more to buy the packs than a multiple of singles.

Maybe human error. They were listed as 2-packs several weeks ago but not this re-stock. I just ordered the singles and paid the extra $4 to get 4 tires (aka two 2-packs).

I got a pair of 25's a year ago, back then they didn't have 28's. The casing looks and feels similar to Compass extralight, the tread is thinner. Really light weight, probably best on bikes that don't see a lot of miles.

more supple, nicer than the race. I have the race a and d - all good but the competition are a step above for a nice riding tire.

Snagged a couple pair of 28s. They were 30mm out of the package on HED C2 rims, 23mm external width. Up to 31mm after 2 days @ 100psi. Not planning to ride 'em at 100psi, just trying to stretch 'em quicker.

Got mine, and just mounted them today. I was waiting for the latex tubes I ordered to arrive, figured that was the way to go with these light and supple tires. The 28mm tires measure just about 28mm on my 20mm wide external rims, so wider rims will bring them out further.

It is still very much Winter here in Maine, but I can't wait to ride them!

I'm trying to get 25c on vintage MA 40. Holy tight beads batman! I tried all the tricks, toe strap, dish soap, VAR tool, swear words in multiple languages, etc. Cannot get the last 6-inches over the rim sidewall no matter how hard I tried. Didn't want to start breaking plastic levers.

Bought from Bike tires direct the Kool stop tire jack and Park Tl- 5 steel core and 6.2 heavy duty steel tire levers. Going to work my way up. Hope to get the tire seated. With my luck I pinched the tube

I picked up a pair of 700x32 Gravel Kings with the file tread. I measured them at 31mm when mounted to a Velocity A23 rim. I think the trick with mounting is to really make sure that the bead is seated at the bottom of the rim. I roll whatever I can of the tire onto the rim. When I get to that difficult last 7 inches or so, I go around pinching the tire to make sure it's seated in the center of the rim, and then I push that last part of the bead over the rim.

Also better to use thin tubeless rim tape, even on your vintage MA40 rims, i/o Velox, or other thicker rim tape/strips. Tubeless-compatible tires are tight, even on vintage rims, and Velox or similar thicker rim tape/strips makes tire mounting even harder.

OperaLover - for a variety of reasons I have been putting on and taking off a variety of new and low mileage Panaracer tires on a couple of sets of G40 wheels and they have been making me feel like an old man. I’ve been using the Crank Bros lever to remove (still ain’t easy) and for installation I get it down to that last 6-7 inches and then duct tape one end of the mounted portion really tight and then working my way from the other end with a steel core lever. Be careful of the tube and make sure you’re not torquing on that with the lever.

First ride report on the Competition SX. Short ride in very cold weather but handled nicely on a short twisty descent. Smooth and supple tire, like it, but on this limited test I still like the Veloflex Corsa/Master better.

Initially I attempted to mount a Comp CX tire on an old Campagnolo Omega box section rim. Now, these rims are known to be difficult for mounting anyway, but there was no way I was going to get that Panaracer Comp CX tire on there.

I now have mine mounted on newer wheels with semi-aero rims and thin rim strips. These are some of the lighter sets that I have, and with these tires and latex tubes they're as light as my best vintage tubulars. I'm going to use them with an 11-34 cassette for longer hilly rides on a carbon bike. Should be sweet!

But yeah, some of these Panaracers are a tight fit out of the box, and they don't stretch very much. The 32mm Race A Evo3 Gravel tires that I just bought were also somewhat difficult to mount on Mavic Open Pro rims.

The Kool Stop tool helped in combination with the Park tool steel core levers. Did not have to resort to the all steel levers. I do have velox tape and that certainly paid a role in the difficulty. I ended up jamming the park lever between the tire and rim to keep the bead from crawling off as I worked toward it with the Kool Stop tool an inch at a time. Slowly lifting it over. The KS tool would lose grip if I tried to move large sections. I held my breath as I pumped them up. HURRAY! No pinched tube (and they were ultralight butyl). I will carry the park levers so I can repair a flat on the road. Hopefully the beads will loosen up a little.

picked up a set of the OG post for the roadster, should have found these Gravel and saved on shipping.

Any one want a lightly used pair of G-Ones in 35c?

Can anyone comment on the actual width of the 25 on a typical wide rim?

What do you think about using these with a carbon rim given the recent stories about the cotton sidewall vittoria and veloflex not being suitable for use on carbon?

I just mounted a pair on SUP Mavic 700c rims
Tight fit

I have 25's on Pacenti SL23 rims that have been inflated to 80psi for several days now and measure ~26.5 mm.

I have 28's on HED Belgium rims (not +), also at 80 psi for several days that measure 30 mm.

For mounting, they're tough. I've always added a little air to new tubes to give them shape and never had issues, until these. Keeping the tubes flat (no air added at all) helped a lot. I use Pedro's tire levers, they're the best I've ever tried.

Mine are mounted on Pacenti rims and I was able to get them on without levers. Get both beads in the middle of the rim and you can pop the last bit on with your thumbs. They do run a little oversize but MAN they ride great.

I've been using the 700x28 Panaracer Competition for about a month. I love them. They are supple and fat looking. I have them on HED Belgium (not plus) and they measure 31mm at the widest point with 90 psi. They were tight to fit, so I'm carrying two big Pedro's tire levers until I know for sure how well they perform for flat protection.

I haven't seen those exact tires (wish I did, because I'm low on road tires), but I did see these - Soma branded but Panaracer-made.

Panaracer Bike Tire Soma Supple Vitesse EX K 700x28c (they also have smaller, and bigger sizes, for about the same price).
