I don't know what's in the water there. Complete insanity. I love it!

(Except for the jack-asses on the side of the road.)

What a finish! Colombia should have a longer tour in the calendar - wonderful country, fantastic people, totally in love with cycling. I've been there to ride five times over the last 10 years and would move there if I could. One of these guys must win the tour at some stage. It's also nice to see these riders so good at young ages - Bernal, Sosa, Lopez, Martinez. No more of this pack fodder domestiques turned into tour contenders overnight....that has always been too close to the 90s for me.

This race and the ones related to it are always like knife fights.

Colombia has long been a secret training for Europeans. Jalabert, Virenque and that crew used to go there for these races (I guess tipped off by Rincon and crew), would race like crazy and would come back to Tour of Med and Paris-Nice with real fitness.

had the chance to be a couple hundred meters below the summit of stage 6.

this race had larger crowds than the tour. the future of road racing lies in colombia's hands.

One of the best WCs. I wore out a VHS tape of the final five hours of that race.

I have "digitized" it.

That was fun to watch but the spectators still piss me off and stress me out and I'm sitting on my couch. I'll never understand the appeal or the tolerance of it.

thanks for the suggestion. Love'd the announcers enthusiasm over "Superman Lopez" antics. myth building at it's best. Who is he?

that's Miguel Angel Lopez, he's won the young rider competition at the Vuelta and the Giro, and was on the podium of both last year too. he also won the Tour de Suisse a few years ago. Big talent with growing palmares.

Third in the Giro and Vuelta last year... Although I mostly remember his Giro as a mission to keep his young rider's jersey / podium spot. Safe racing, not working on the front of chases, that sort of deal. He's purely tactical. Gluing himself to Sosa while Nairo went up the road is a good example.

Lopez is a wonderfully talented climber who unfortunately TTs about as well as Rigo and Nairo. He'll need the right grand tour or a lot of luck to make it work.
