What is the consensus about mixing a grey 5800 series 105 NDS crank arm stages power meter with a 8000 Ultegra DS from an aesthetic perspective?

Functionally it will work - both arms will be same length and the spindles are compatible.

The 105 is on sale and is almost 50% less ($400CAD vs $775 CAD) than the Ultegra so it got me thinking.

This will be going on the new Speedvagen if that makes a difference.

I'm thinking to dish out for the matching arm cuz it may bug you later and then you're stuck with having to shed the 105. Also if it's going onto a custom then the bike kinda deserves the extra love.

It will work perfectly. Although if there is a difference in the power meter generation I’d go for gen 3 vs gen 2.

fact: there is almost no way to see both crank arms of a bike at the same time.

i'd do that with no hesitation.

Its a gen 3.

Agreeing with Angry, I won't see it, but am very curious about power meters.

Drive side: 6800
NDS w the stages: 9000

Yeah, I know it's there, but don't see it riding the bike

I have a Raceface left arm and spindle with a Quarq X11 PM on the right side for my fatbike. Only way I could get power meter on the bike.

my buddy did it when they were closing out some meters, he had the opposite, Dura Ace NDS and Ultegra drive side works great, we rib him of course..

As for me, I found an 8000 Stages on the Facebook group for US $350 NIB so I got lucky.. (or VERY patient actually)

I’ve done it several times w 6800 stages and DA 9100 and R8000 cranks. I’ve not tried a gen 3 yet but if you have a choice and it’s not much more for the gen 3 I’d strongly encourage you to go this route given all the dropout issues I’ve had w/ gen 2 and my old edge 1000. If you are rocking a wahoo head unit it hardly matters and it’s mostly about resale, imho.

I've done it with a 6800 Stages (Gen 1) and a 7800 drive side in the past. Didn't match but worked perfectly fine. In the end if somebody notices the mismatch while riding it just means they're slower than you

This No22 has a 6700 Stages hiding on the NDS.

No one has ever noticed.

I have a 7900 Stages with a 9000 crank. I sometimes don't notice. No one does.

Hi

I have 5 missmached nobody ever said anything I just keep black with black
and Gray with Gray.
If someone says something just hold 400watts for 5 or 10 minutes that should fix it.
