I've wanted one of these ever since they were new.

Fully aware any decent road bike from the last ten years will be better ... but I don't really care :help:

I think this might be the year I build one.

Do it.

My vote is modern Campagnolo or 7400 w/ downtube shifters and 7410 cranks. In either case, I would go with modern wheels.

My first thought was "that's ridiculous." My second thought was "well, I'd buy a Trimble in a flash, so maybe I'm ridiculous."

I owned both the predecessor 200SCi and the Triathlon version of that bike, the KM40. The traditional double triangle 200SCi rode like a brick, and wasn't nearly as stiff as anything built this century. The KM40 was surprisingly comfy, and soaked up a lot of road noise and bumps. It didn't have the stiffness to sprint or put out major power, but it was pleasant for those hour long TT efforts in aerobars. I would assume the 500EMS has a similar feel.

Overall, the 500EMS and KM40 are beautiful bikes! I still own the KM40, but with 650c wheels and a long TT, it's pretty useless now-a-days. I should just hang it on a wall as artwork... You should be able to find a good deal on a 500EMS, as long as you can find someone selling one.

Love funky designs. Go for it. Some itches have to be scratched.

Go for it! Unique is better and faster!

I have a 2004 Look KX Light...unique because of the diamond shaped tubes and I just purchased a Calfee Tetra Pro...those webbed lugs...

Embrace the extraordinary!

A buddy of mine has a Kestrel with no seat tube. It takes very hard to source 650C wheels, which has been a hassle for him.

I've been telling him he needs to get rid of it for the last few years, and switch to something that can take 32 tires, which is more appropriate for the riding around here.

Point of interest: similar to converting a 700c bike to 650B, you can also drop down from a 650c to a 26" rim, gaining some more clearance for a larger tire. And there are some nice 26x1.25" tires out there to make it worth considering.

I still have that bike- on the other coast
Loved it, raced it- tri and duathlon mostly
Fast, comfy, unique
The only carbon bike I did not break, or was broken by a truck

ha I knew I found the right support group :)

The 26" with 1.25" idea is intriguing. Could turn this into actually a really practical rando bike perhaps.

DeRosa Tango.

Salvador Dali would be proud!

I've got a set of super clean 650c tubular Shamals if they'd help somebody get rolling...
