This is a bit of a story..

a young relative of mine, also from germany like me, is planning a big west coast holiday in march/april this year.

Part of this will be him riding solo from SF to LA.

For logistical reasons, he plans not to bring a bike, but to purchase a (not too expensive one) on location.
So, he would need a bike available at/near SF airport area, around the 17th of march :) He can't/doesn't want to spend more than 200€.

He intends to look on CL and such, and i volunteered to inquire here because i feel there is a better chance to end up with something not completely crap :)

So, do any of you paceliners have a hint where to look for such a bike, or do you know someone who had a bike for sale fitting that description:
roughly 56 frame size,
possibly pannier,
standing a fighting chance of reaching LA with not too many break downs?

thanks!

If not CL, then check out the Recyclery in Marin (http://www.tripsforkidsmarin.org/re-cyclery-bike-shop/). There's public transportation from SFO to SF (BART); and there should be a way via bus, ferry, or both to at least get you close to the Recyclery from SF.

thanks, that looks promising, i'll pass it on!

oh, and i'm told the "close to SF airport" isnt really mandatory, as there will be transport (campervan) available until the day of departure
