View Full Version : Fenders - One Bike, Two Wheel Sizes?

Difficult to search for this but I'm sure there's some discussion of folks trying to go this way. Because don't we all believe in miracles?

I started with a 650b gravel bike that was a purpose-built machine, then later decided to get a second set of 700c wheels just to see what the hubbub was about swapping wheel sizes on the same bike.

While I was at it I made the front a dyno hub since I occasionally do very long rides or ride with the local rando club. After a year on this bike I've decided to swap the fork to support a dyno hub and a rack for a bag, so it's time to dress it in fenders too.

Ideally I'd have a single set of fenders I can run both my 650bx48 tires and 700xwhatever (currently 38, but I expect to run the largest that will fit in the fenders without rubbing).

Is that even possible? I see SKS 50s recommended for either size - but haven't found anyone running both on the same bike (yet)

If it looks a bit funny with the 650s that's okay - as long as it doesn't rub or require adjustment.

PDW 650 Beast Fenders: https://ridepdw.com/products/full-metal-fenders-650-beast?variant=2994455707661

The problem though is that 700x38 will maybe be too big, depending on your attachment points - I'm talking length of the stays. 700x32 or 35 should be fine though.

Great fenders.

Typically 650x48 has the same effective diameter as 700x28. 700x38 might be too much.

This thread has lots of great fender ideas for tires and bikes that are far outside of the road/rando standard:
