I think it's at least two or three years old, and it centered around a Boston (I think) bike shop from the Seventies that several members recalled fondly. I thought it was a fantastic thread, and there might be a great article in there somewhere ...

Guessing it was the Bicycle Exchange in Harvard Square, on Bow Street, owned by Ben Olken, if that helps you find it. Walked by that area last week, and also visited the Broadway Bicycle School, originally the Bicycle repair Collective, founded in 1972, and still there. Founders included Sheldon Brown and Stan Kaplan (Kryptonite lock inventor).
