I don't love a single bike here.
https://theradavist.com/2018/12/the-top-10-beautiful-bicycles-of-2018/#1

Is it because I've never heard Father John Misty? Is it because I haven't shopped at REI since 2009? Or is it because these bikes look as the Jerk would say, too precious?

But all bikes are good bikes. So, what's your Paceline Top 3 or 5 or 1 for 2018?

Here are the first two that come to mind for me. I'll probably update this as I remember more.

Clean39T's Kirk (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=225658)

joosttx's 44 Marauder (https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=225102)

Funny, I'm not typically a fan of any color but black or army green, typically. And rim brakes don't really do it for me anymore.

But Dark Matter just nailed that blue! Damn! And it's got a level top tube! Hot damn squared! And the curved seat stays! All masterly built by the "Metal Oracle" of Ketchum Idaho.

I'll also take Dan's (Clean39) lovely Alliance ... in army green please :)

I hear ya. And thank you. Kris likes it low. I think for practical and aesthetic reasons I would also like it higher on the downtube. But I wasnt gonna argue with a RISD grad.

The Kirk fillet CX bike--I think from Dave Kirk to Clean39t to Kirk007--was a favorite for the year for me. So cool.

my vote for #1 ? actually it would be a tie. dave kirk's new personal stainless steel onesto fillet gravel bike and llewellyn colossus by darrell. different bikes and materials but both absolutely spectacular! brazing at it's best and lug work extraordinaire. both bikes so well thought out. two of our best current craftsmen in the business! imho.

Also, can't miss with Mzilliox's Goodrich.

No need to denigrate the Radavist's list.

I agree. The list is based on what the thousands of people who come to that site are viewing and talking about, not what the owner of the site thinks are noteworthy. And a lot of those bikes aren't that different than most of the bikes here.

As I mentioned, I don't get the selections and, obviously, the site. So, the "denigration" is self-directed. I guess a $10,000 plus "klunker" inspired balloon tire bike could be seen as the natural evolution of fixed gear freestyle.

I'll play. In no particular order.

Joosttx' 44 Marauder has already been linked/mentioned a few times.

Mzilliox's Goodrich has already been mentioned/linked as well. I smile every time this one is posted - just about the perfect modern-classic.

StephenCL's Ti Zanc. While there are other Ti bikes with features that I like better, this one stands out as the product of an amazing builder always refining their craft.

https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=227197

Ryun's Bixxis Pathos. Embarrassed to admit I continually look to see if he'll list this one for sale!

https://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=224631

One that has to be mentioned again is Bianchi10's Tarmac. Such amazing attention to detail - I wish I had the patience/passion to do the same to my bike.

Like many I'd guess, I always click when I see mention of a Peg. Even more so now I think with his passing. They are all good but my recent fave is from across the hall, Titanium_Dan's Marcelo:

With the caveats that (1) I'm 6'4" and appreciate taller bikes, and (2) have a fondness for blue-collar bikes:

https://farm1.staticflickr.com/592/22511562060_ffdb690d2a_c.jpg
@Phoenix's Gunnar Crosshairs: clean, great proportions, silver spokes.

Amazing wishbone seatstay by @EricEstlund.

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20181005/907742e8998dcdee374561ace092a95b.jpg
I don't know who ended up with it, but @Clean39T's Boulder tempted me waaay too much even though I already owned its functional duplicate.

https://forums.thepaceline.net/attachment.php?attachmentid=1697960331&stc=1&d=1526420856

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20180820/8cef3864b95cd9e3f436aed9f418a2b1.jpg

We need a better picture of the finished bike, but for me, @Kieth_A's Ellis edges out Dan's similar Ellis with its Faema-homage paint.

https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1802/41200074820_dcc9353db9_c.jpg
I often don't like straight-blade steel forks, but @JTakeda's Yamaguchi kills it with silver components, a beautiful crankset, and tops it off with a white Flite.

https://i.imgur.com/2DUFVbY.jpg
@Brewsmith's stainless steel Alchemy. Kinda wish I'd bought that one.

Don't remember whose it is, and I'm not sure it was posted in 2018, but I love this light blue Merckx. As awesome as Molteni orange is, I have to give this one the nod.

Same here

It offends my eyes you see,
The sloping top tube is far too twee.

I will not ride a sloping top tube over hill or dale,
Neither on pavement nor trail.

It is an aesthetic disgrace,
A marketing ploy made far too common place.

Its ascendancy remains a mystery,
May good taste prevail
And relegate it to the dustbin of history.

IMO, sloping top tubes look good when they don't slope much. And that only really applies to smaller frames.

Plus one for the Gunnar, Marcelo and Merckx. Those photos make me feel like the guy who never gets tired of stills of Sophia Loren.

Great to see my old Savine here in both iterations.
Riley needs to post some recent pictures of that beast.
As for the Radavist list, I am really liking that rusty, raw Sklunker. (https://theradavist.com/2018/07/adam-and-his-sklunker/#1)
That looks like fun, just needs a basket for beer runs.

Very utilitarian build (I like that there are cheaper replaceable parts on it, centaur RD, VO stem, its great), love the frame and fork, nice choice of parts. Seems like the bike I want to ride all day.
