I have some sticker and tape residue on one of my frames. Can I use mineral spirits and a rag to clean it off? Acetone?

I just don't want to damage the paint......

Avoid the solvents you mentioned if we're talking about finished tubes. I find for some things a liquid polish works pretty well. Use enough to wet the residue and wipe it away.

This, or rubbing alcohol for some stickers.

If its being stubborn, try heating it up with a hairdryer. I bought a frame once that had reflective tape ALL over it and I could get more than a centimeter off at a time before the piece just cracked off. Hairdryer helped

You can use masking tape (or any other adhesive tape), will take a while but it works, the glue will get stuck in the masking tape... like removing bubble gum :P

Bestine (rubber cement thinner) will take off any kind of adhesive without marring the surface.
Rewax the surface after.

Mineral spirits should not harm any modern paint. Acetone is more risky, but it won't hurt modern urethanes.

WD-40, best thing in world for sticker residue. It has a super light solvent, won't damage carbon or hurt any paint, but for whatever reason is the balls for sticker residue.

I agree with the others on going for WD 40. I don't know why it works as well as it does but I've never had any problems with it damaging finishes.

Another vote for Goo Gone and WD-40.

Also, peanut butter, or vegetable oil.

A hair dryer worked for me removing stickers, but not the residue; it just softens it. You could soften it with the hair dryer THEN use one of the suggestions above.

+1.

Depending on the adhesive, alcohol will either dissolve it immediately or not move it at all. If alcohol doesn't work, mineral spirits will take care of it. Neither will hurt paint. Keep mineral spirits away from plastic and rubber, though. I would never use acetone.
