Some free time today so just scanning eBay.

Saw this Scapin, with a braze-on on the underside of the top tube. Not the usual place for a number hanger.

Not a touring frameset.

Hmm. A number peg would of course go father toward the front, so the riders legs wouldn't cover it during the pedal stroke.

Wow, I just wanted to tag this, so I can find out what that is for.

Frame bag mount would be my only guess?

Is there anything on the seat tube? The only thing I can think of is that it's one of two attachment points for those frame straps to help you shoulder the bike.

I also noticed that on their alumni frame as well.

Anytime I see a single braze on like that I figure it’s for a CO2 inflator.

It’s for a top tube workstand clamp interface. :banana:

That's my thought too but I normally see those on the bottom of the downtube so in this case I'm not sure.

Really though, maybe a matching seat tube port makes Weaponsgrade's idea of a portage strap the winner.

That's way too far forward for a portage strap.

I would email Scapin and ask. I asked them some questions about my early 90s MTB and they responded pretty quick.

Probably a helium injection port.
Lighter = faster, you know.

It's a number mount

I put a water bottle braze on under one of my custom frames one time to hold a special pump holder Blackburn made for one of their mini-pumps. Placing a bracket to securely hold a pump in an unused part of the frame was the goal. I don't remember how long these pumps/brackets were on the market but I don't think it was very long. I'm at the in-laws right now otherwise I could take a picture of one under a top tube to show. This was in the era before special holders for mini-pumps were designed for regular water bottle bosses on the down or seat tube.
