Has anyone got a source for rubber beads / cable bumpers to put on the cable housings where they rub on the head tube?

A related question:

I normally don't have a problem with cable slap, even without the grommets, but built up my first Campy bike last year and it does have problems with it.

If I'm lazy and don't feel like undthreading the rear brake cable, and instead just cut a doughnut, slip it onto the cable and rotate it so the cut part faces away from the TT will it stay on, or will it work itself off?

Nope, not those little cable o-rings. The ones I am looking for go on the (larger) housing, not the (smaller) cable. So the hole thru would be just under 5mm. They were on a bike I rented in Italy recently, and I thought they were a cool alternative to the clear sticky-dot on the head tube.

I would think that a store that sold hydraulic or pneumatic equipment should have something like that. Take a piece of the cable housing with you and tell them you want something to fit.

if your lbs uses Rav X cable kits; the Rav x kits have the frame protecters in the kits. You might ask if they ahve a couple lying around. I have three extra... I don't use them, pm your address and I'll mail them to you.

The easiest thing to do is go to a pet store and purchase a short length of aquarium air hose of the correct ID and use that stuff. I have seen plastic tubing at Lowes and HD as well, just not sure if the tubing they sell is small enough for your purposes.

Thanks L8, I'll PM you.

After I posted, I also had the thought to get a itty bitty piece of silicone hose, similar to what you said. The housing bumpers on the italy rental bike were almost round.

jagwire makes these- tubetops- but they're fairly expensive for what you get

plus the protector would still be touching your HT- I'd think you'd get cable rub even with these things :crap:

I hate the wear of the cables on the headtube. I recently learn a way to avoid it entirely...route the cables to the other side and cross the cables under the downtube. I put a couple of the small cable donuts under the downtube and the cables stay away from the headtube.

Ace Hardware or local equivalent. They're just O-rings! Nothing exotic.
