What are some of your go-to shorts/liners for casual riding, to be worn under street clothes? Ideally there would be a very minimal chamois and the length would be short so they don't show under normal shorts.

Something like this but not windproof: https://www.competitivecyclist.com/gore-wear-c3-gore-windstopper-base-layer-boxer-shorts-mens?skid=GWR002R-BK-L&ti=Q29sbGVjdGlvbjp1bmRlZmluZWQ6MTo5Og==

Just regular merino boxer briefs. No chamois. Good for me on rides up to 3-4 hours.

There are bike specific liners.

I use a mid thigh Speedo racing suit.

I’m definitely looking for something with a chamois.

Then find a triathlon short. Shorter and thinner with thin chamois.

Pearl Izumi liners work for me. Link (https://www.pearlizumi.com/US/en/Shop/Ride/Mountain/Men's/Apparel/Bottoms/Liners/Men's_SELECT_Liner_Short/p/19111802). Of course they’re $50 dollars now. I bought a bunch when they were $30ish. Some of their mtb shorts come with a removable liner which might make for a deal.

I have some of the PIs linked above. They were great for wearing under other shorts when commuting and now I usually wear then by themselves when on the trainer. I'm very happy with them. Also purchased them for about $30

I picked up a couple pairs of the lower-end Castelli training bibs on the cheap from the Garmin team a few years ago when they changed over to a new sponsor. The Kiss chamois is thinner than the Progetto chamois in the higher end versions, as is the material. I've worn them often under cargo shorts and pants for biking around town or longer commutes for shopping or headed to events where walking around in lycra would not be cool!
