I recently nabbed an '85 Specialized Expedition and have a couple vintage brake questions:

1) the levers are Suntour Superb with original hoods. How can I beat protect/preserve them?

2) the brakes are old Shimano XTs with original pads. Are there drop in Kool Stops that work with these holders?

Given that SunTour Superbe brake hoods are practically made of unobtanium, you might consider sourcing a second set of brake levers and just get some of the many reproduction Campy brake hoods available (~$30) or the new SOMA hoods (even cheaper). Save your nice hoods for showing off.

As for the brake blocks, contact K-S with your model and dimensions. They make so many reproduction pads these days, there's a good chance something will fit. If nothing else, one of their pad+holder combos might work.

The Kool Stop Eagle II is another excellent smooth post cantilever pad.
