View Full Version : Bike lube with a straw?

Not the kind of straw that's outlawed in some states but is there bike lube with a little straw tip used to apply accurately?

I've been using Rock-n-Roll gold for a while now and I like it but there's no straw on it so I can get a little crazy with the application.

I stopped by the LBC to see if there was something with a straw I could pick up there but the mechanic said none of them had straws.

Suggestions?

Thanks!

I picked up one of these and I like it. I use it with ProLink.

RnR is a drip bottle, and you're supposed to go a bit crazy with it, applying it at the cassette, and then wipe off all the excess. It's a cleaner and lube in one.

What i use for chains is lube for chainsaws, tad in the thick side but not motor oil heavy, the best thing is that you put the oil, then use rags or paper sheets to clean all the junk that comes out of the chain just like nothing. Good stuff, need to find a way to thin it but so far so good.

Have you tried thinning with mineral spirits?
I use a combo of mineral spirits and auto oil and it thins out the oil very well.

Great idea. Hows that with leaking?
Been using NFS for a few years now and the only issue I have is its hard to travel with as no matter what container I put it in, it seems to leak.

I'm partial to NFS based not only on performance over the past few years, but my chain and cassettes definitely are quieter and easier to clean and I don't use nearly as much product as when I was using ProGold ProLink. YMMV of course.

PS...NFS is made and marketed by a gent who supports a bike forum as well and I feel good about where my money goes...he rocks.

This is a funny one - any good lube should leak if left on its side - the same forces which make it great at getting between pins and plates make it great at seeping out of threaded closures.

When I'm flying, I buy a new bottle for the trip out, and double-bag on the way back. When I'm driving, I have a corner of the tool box which the bottle will always stay upright in.

Being anal retentive as I am I empty the oiler after every usage. I only put enough NFX into the oiler to do the chain(s) I am working on at the time. Any left over oil gets disposed of.

LOL! I'm probably paranoid, but I quintuple-bag my chainlube when I fly with it!

I like Tri Flow for everything except chains.

The OP could also get an old fashioned oil can. I still see them at hardware stores. They don't need to be as fancy as a high tech oiler.

Google Gaunt Industries. They have all kinds of different size bottles and needles for a wide range of uses.
