Hey everyone.
Henrik here (from Curve and Pandana). My main thing is vintage bikes and events, and I did the most recent edition in October in Italy, and I wanted to find out who else made the trip to Italy. As far as equipment goes, I had excellent luck with a Eddy Merckx Corsa Extra with a more or less straight mid 80's Campy Super Record group with a few mods: Chris King Headset, Phil Wood BB, close ratio 50/42 front rings and some excellent handbuilt wheels from oldpotatoe: Velo Orange freewheel hubs, H+Son Rims, Panaracer Gravel King tires. Chisolm Custom Wheels builds the best hoops, IMO. It's a super heavy gravel-grinder type event. What have other people been running on their vintage rigs?

That has been a long term goal of mine but have yet to follow through. I rode Eroica California this year and plan to ride next. I rode my ‘84 ish Tommasini Racing with Super Record group. I used a slightly newer wheelset with C Record hubs and Mavic MA 40’s. I’m really tempted to ride the same bike next year because it is such a wonderful climbing bike but I have an ‘82 Colnago Super and ‘84 Moser that also qualify, so might take one of those instead.

This is a thread from elsewhere for last years Gaiole ride. You will find lots of pics and kindred spirits there.

Trying to figure out how to attach some photos here. )
Great shot from L'Eroica California. Very nice bike. Looks like a 28 on the back. I had a 42x28 in Italy. It was just barely enough. Next year, I will probably run a different bike with slightly lower gearing. The conditions were good enough this year to be out of the saddle without slipping too much. If it was dryer and looser, it would be difficult to maintain traction on some of the steeper gravel climbs.

Here's a link to a few pics from the ride. It was a good day out. )

I would love to make it to Gaiole and ride....maybe one year I'll be able to get there.

I've been to every edition of Eroica CA. The first year I rode my 1980 Pogliaghi, the next two it was the '86 Losa and this year it was the '66 Frejus. I do change the gearing to something lower since I climb like a rock.

The Losa

Old Potatoe built the wheels on the Frejus.

I'm in for 2020.
California 2019 and 2020, but definitely Gaiole in 2020.

I rode in Gaiole in 2014 and 2015. 2015 was wet and this picture is at the stop in Radda. Fuso with mainly 7400 Dura Ace. Silver shifters and put a Deore derailleur with a 14-32 freewheel. 1697970310
28 mm Gravel Kings. Replaced cockpit with all Nitto and Rolls saddle.
