Its now time to get etap :) Really interested to see what they do with the new one. Hopefully smaller battery in the FD so you can fit bigger tires is my main wish.

It's the bike trade and a race to the bottom. Everyone want's to cut their on throat and make the least amout of money New product, best discount it by 60%, I know it's not even available for 8mths but if I get my pre-orders in I'll make 3% ****tards the lot of them!!!

Got a better one? 11 was an improvement over 10 and the 12 on my MTB allows me to go much lower (50!) with better ratios on the way than 11.

More than half the complaints here about 1x (and even 2X for some triple hangers on) are about jumps in between. Adding a gear is part of that solution.

I am betting they will change a few more things. Everyone know that front derailleur function can improve with ETAP. Works great but could be better. Also speed... I bet there is more than just 1 more gear

The rear has a clutch a la the new Ultegra. The chain rings are one piece and come in new untraditional ratios. There are several articles and a thread on here. The journo who rode it said that the fd is better but SRAM has always had room for improvement there.

Perhaps the servo gearing for the FD will change so that frame mfctrs don't have to reinforce the braze-on bracket.

It's on the XDR driver and goes down to a 10. The rings are 48/35 and 50/37 so far but the cassette is only a 10-28 so nobody has seen a subcompact yet. I agree that 46-30 and the like are the future of 2X. Wout is riding it as 1X but that hasn't been shown. Also the cranks use the new DUB standard.

I'm holding out for SRAM to introduce a group featuring CDMA communication, where a call center employee (outsourced to Tata CS offshore) manages all of my shifting based on variety of internal power meters and biometric sensors embedded in the bike frame, various drivetrain parts and advanced kit fabric (itself a joint collabo between Rapha and GE Healthcare).

So I guess that means for now I'm out on current etap.

Are distributors offering discounted $ to bike shops? Is sram offering discounts to distributors? No idea, not in trenches anymore.

Just checked QBP and yes, 40% discount, altho QBP doesn't have any...from sram, it looks like. I'm guessing the new, whizbang, 12s stuff is 'on the way'..:eek:

Sounds like an improvement, not sure about going up to 12 speeds though. I suppose it will be easier to shift for the RD, even with bigger cogs in the back

Funny. Except that the collaboration is actually across the entire offering you've described, it's Qualcomm and its connected healthcare subsidiary, not GE Healthcare, and in his last action before leaving Congress Darrell Issa has introduced legislation requiring all bike manufacturers to adopt this standard.

Shimano has to reinforce their FD too. I don't see how they could make it without.

It's a cutthroat business out there for sure...and makes zero sense unless SRAM is cash poor and really needs to move product to afford production on the 12-speed stuff.

Is this really any different then any other producer of goods? You can get a great deal on a current year Honda when the new year models are soon to arrive (even more so if it is a full redesign). Same with a Sony TV, iphone, 2018 model video game, Nike sneakers, etc.

I think the folks buying the halo bikes are less impacted by now being able to get some of the parts for a couple hundred dollars less. I think the tough sell on the current halo bikes is that folks who are going to spending that much anyway are going to want to have the latest and greatest unless there is some discount for getting the current and soon to be last generation of product.

Except the Honda MotherShip, with a variety of $ incentives, paybacks, etc, will take care of their dealers..sram, via distributors, nope. They'll have to take a beating on pricing. Same for bike shops that aren't 'factory' stores..

Yes. The discounted kit includes shift levers and front and rear derailleurs, batteries and charger. That would be all you need.

With etap, since it's electronic, why couldn't the software be upgraded to 12 speed? I'm sure SRAM wants to not do this to maximize sales of 12 speed kits...I would think a bike on the floor could have parts swapped out for a reasonable price...

The service I received from them was beyond stellar! Shipped within hours, 2 Day Priority. Bought it on a Friday morning and had it midday on Sunday. I, like everyone else want a good deal, but when you get service like that, it’s worth payment a bit more...:)

And, I have a feeling that was probably rock bottom on the pricing, including the very expensive shipping. That box is super heavy!

On another note, it still comes in 6 stupid oversized boxes, but they did away with the even stupider presentation box. I would have been happy if it had come OEM style. Would have been so much easier to deal with.

I saw that one...honestly, I like the diamond exogrid much, much more. Oh, that one is a bit too small though. But it’s a great price!
