View Full Version : OT: Pricing New Ford F-150

I am buying a new, 2007 Ford F-150 pickup truck. I want to get a sense of what I can expect to have to pay in a cash, no financing, transaction. Let's say that the dealer invoice I am shown is $34,000.

What does the dealer's approximate actual cost come down to after taking dealer rebates, inventives and holdback into account? How much over that would be a reasonably expected price I would have to pay?

And if the dealer had a leftover 2006 with a similar invoice, what would the numbers look like?

Thanks,

keno

ot to the ot, but I was reading a statistic that the F-150 is the single most commonly owned vehicle among millionaires.

Go figure. What, you use it to haul around show horses or something???

Another website: carsdirect.com

I'm not sure if it has the info you are looking for, but there are too many options on the F-150 to give you good answer....it is pretty easy to use...I like it better than vehix

You should be able to get about $11k off sticker on an F150. Two years ago, I got a $38k sticker one for $27k. It is a fine vehicle, but it eats gas.

Visit edmunds.com for invoice prices.

I got my van just over Invoice.

There is a 3% holdback. so that even at Invoice the dealer is making
3% of MSRP profit.

PM me if I can help.

Go to Consumer Reports. They offer a service where for a very reasonable fee you can get all the info on this stuff and get all the dealer cost figures for just about any car with any combo of options.

Nah, F150 only hauls one horse...two at most. ;)

I can see Keno in an F250 diesel...

Keno, an interesting experiment. Check the price of your chosen vehicle in different zip codes. Say...48220...I've known two people who flew to a different city to pick up their vehicle and drive it home. They saved enough that the bit of hassle was worth it. There's that whole tax thing...but it's something to check on.

Tax policy. If you own your own business, you can depreciate the entire cost of an F-150 in one year, unlike the depreciation schedule for a car. Many millionaires are small business owners.

In other words, Congress made them do it.

stevep, i love ya baby, atmo hearts you even more, but answer
me this, and i mean this as a straight up question, nothing but a
real cigar, how/why is your vehicle purchasing method different then the
cycling-shoe-LBS comment you just made over on Onno's shoe thread?

i went to one dealer...knew what i wanted...asked him how much the car would cost me...his answer.." come back when you want to buy it and we'll see..."..just was uncomfortable to me...i've probably bought 10 new cars over the years and always found the process uncomfortable.

but i was not interested in a test ride, in hearing about the features, etc, etc. did all that myself beforehand.
imho not the same as going into a shop who buys all the shoe inventory, trying on a bunch of shoes that they have paid to stock and then busting *** to find them cheaper online.
also note that i am sympathetic more to the plight of any bike retailer who is trying to add value and eke out a few bucks in their local markets... i think they are often the ones putting on the rides, running the races, generating the enthusiasm for the sport that many of us live off...never bad to throw a few bucks into that pot.
ive never found buying a new car to be anything like any other retail purchase...and if there are any car dealers on the forum chip in your thoughts to everyone.
and i did buy the car from a dealer...but imho the one who wasted the least of my time and made the transaction easiest for ME.

Give me some credit, fly: http://www.forbesautos.com/advice/toptens/billionaire2006/01-billionaires.html?partner=bill_cars_promo (1 in 10, but kind of a small sample)

Smiley, if I see John Mellencamp singing "Our Country" one more time I wouldn't even buy Chevron gas.

Ginger, we've successfully hauled a two-horse trailer fully loaded with a Ford Explorer and a Jeep Grand Cherokee for endless miles without problems. An F-150 4x4 with the big engine will be child's play.

Pete, now we're talking. I know a father/son around here who went to NC to buy their two trucks, but don't know if Cary was the dealer.

My dream was to find a Ford salesman or dealer on the forum who would tell me the real truth in exchange for keno's witness protection program.

Thanks, all, for your thoughts.

In all seriousness, there's not enough info in the OP to answer the question.

Buying a car and getting the best possible deal is a science. The dealer's true cost can be calculated using generally available information, such as that on websites like edmunds.com. Don't forget to account for dealer holdback and any incentives that may be available to either the consumer or the dealer.

Good luck. The F-150 is a good vehicle.

I've always gone to edmunds and then walked into the dealership and said to the salesman- "I've been to edmunds, I know what the car costs, let's not waste either of our time haggling. Give me your price." They figure it out, give me what I figured it would cost, and I have a new car in 20 minutes. They don't make as much commission, but they also don't have to waste hours or multiple visits smoozing me.

Yep. Do the research and:
"This is the car I want at this price. Do you have it? Sell it to me. Don't have it/can't find it? Order it, sell it to me."

My last car I made the deal with one sales guy for a car they had to order, he was promoted and I had to deal with another when the car came in. When the paperwork came in it was 1000 more than we had agreed upon plus several hundred in other charges. The new sales guy insisted that was as low as he could go on that car at that time and he had no idea how the previous sales guy had gotten the price so low.

I told him "I guess you better figure that out."
He did.

Best deals = Costco. No BS. You go through fleet sales and don't have to deal with the showroom sales scum. Bought three new vehicles through Costo since '99 and each time it was up to a couple thousand lower than dealer's best offers.

Keno,
On the farm we drove Ford trucks. My first vehicle was a F150 heavy half ton (now they call it towing package...) with a three on the tree... Beat the heck out of them. They are certainly capable of towing a horse or two. The 4x4 is probably overkill.

Good luck!

I am amused that Michael Dell owns both the "shopping mall" Porsche (the Boxster) and the "shopping mall" SUV (the Hummer H2)...

Good luck with your F150 purchase, Keno. Please don't go for the F250/F350 contractor carriage with the diesel and the crew cab and all. It's really become a wannabe vehicle here in the West. I'm pretty sure it's a Viagra substitute for most owners.

4x4 is a necessity in order to get up our driveway in winter conditions, and for use on our farm.

I have 85 more of these at other locations- what color of white would you like-

ford changes their "white" about every 3 years or so

I will have to consult with eduoard manet and brush up on my basic white. Given my personality and general outlook, something in an off-white will probably be called for, but first em.

Any chance you can get employee or supplier pricing? Here in Michigan, it is virtually impossible to NOT have a family member employed by the big Three so there isn't a lot of ****er and dealing. The price is set by the manufacturer and you just throw any current incentives, rebates, trades, etc on top of that to bring the price down further.

The general rule of thumb used to be (GM products) 18% off sticker and 15% off accessories. Bigger discounts if you were willing to order or go through the demo program.

I would say that if you have a trade that you have a lot of room for negotiation. The trade-in value varies widely depending on which dealership you go to so it might be wise to go to a few different dealers to find the "market value" for your trade.

Ginger

You don't even have to have a family member anymore...just go to the right sales guy and he makes you one of the family.

Not part of your discussion but when has that ever stopped me  Why not buy used? We tried a couple Duramax 4X4's last yr. from a local guy who sells low mileage trucks shipped from Texas. REALLY liked the diesel...ended up with a Volvo...OH THE HUMANITY OF IT ALLLLLL
