As you may have seen from a couple of leaked articles, the wait is over!

Continental has unveiled its new successor to the Grand Prix 4000 S II. The Grand Prix 5000 is now available in clincher and tubeless variants.

We will have these tires available in the following sizes;

Clincher: 700 x 23/25/28/32, 650 x 25/28
Tubeless: 700 x 25/28/32, 650 x 25

Some points:

• 12% less rolling resistance compared to GP 4000 S II
• 20% more puncture resistance compared to GP 4000 S II
• 10G lighter than (700 x 25) compared to GP 4000 S II
• Tubeless variant 5% less rolling resistance compared to GP 5000 Clincher
• Elastomeric casing utilizing Active Comfort Technology which dampens road vibrations without sacrificing speed
• Laser-etched shoulder tread for out-of-the-box peak grip performance

As far as availability is concerned, we have some initial very limited inventory of clincher 700 x 23 and 700 x 25 in the Olney DC.

Since initial quantities will be so limited please place your pre-order and I will fulfill as much as possible. These will also only ship in multiples of ten (case quantity) so that our warehouse can keep up with demand.
We should see the missing sizes and tubeless variants trickling in between now and the end of the year.

It’s predecessor was, by far, the longest lasting tire I’ve used. I hope they didn’t screw it up.

I’ve got a pair of 4000s that came on a pair of wheels I bought a few years back and they’re still in use. They’ve been very durable and puncture resistant and ride way better than I expected they would. I’m much more open minded on Continental than I used to be. My memories of Continental from 30 years ago are of tires that rode like garden hoses and dry rotted as soon as they were installed. They seem to have upped their game.

Definitely will be interested in these going forward.

$70 list. Certainly not cheap, but it will probably be discounted here and there. I hope their claims pan out, as it would raise the bar that the 4000 tire has set. Just an outstanding tire.

This is from an email I got announcing the tire. I didn't see the leaks myself, but I don't read every single bike website or message board. But I do get the leak joke.

i know some people love them, but i've personally had really bad luck with conti tires, particularly sidewall issues. hopefully whatever new compound they have created addresses that a bit.

at face value the stats sound every good.

fwiw, the set of 4KIIs that I'm currently riding are setting some personal mileage records.

rear tire has 6,777 miles on it.

the front tire has...wait for it...drum roll, 12,843 miles.

the wear indicators are still visible on both tires.

will be interesting to see how a set of 5Ks fare...

Oh yeah! While I’m definitely intrigued by these new GP5Ks, and will almost certainly try a pair eventually (unless early reviews suck) I’m *really* looking forward to GP4K-SIIs getting blown out for $25 each!

Why would they start making one of Vittoria's old tires?

I will probably try the 32mm tubeless soon... Love the gravel king that is on there right now but really want tubeless next on that wheelset.

Vittoria, when are corsa Gs tubeless coming?

Awesome news!

So a 25mm 700x25 GP4000S II vs a 700x25 GP5000 Tubeless has

• 17% less rolling resistance
• 20% more puncture resistance
• 10G lighter

Stoked!

Hope you've already bought a Cannondale.... their claimed 'test figures' showed a 400% increase in stiffness and 200% compliance over the years... :)

I agree. A set of Fulcrum wheels came with GP4000 25's and they ride a lot better than I thought. I ended up putting them on all 3 bikes. Even with different wheels, they did improve the ride of each. The tires run on the big side, so the LOOK is relegated to 23's where most 25's would fit.

non speed. The Corsa already fragile under me, the speeds would probably disintegrate upon first ride.

I now use a Corsa in the front and a Corsa control in the back. Extra supple in the front, a bit more protection in the back.

as far as the paves. They were great but the corsas are a better tire, maybe make the corsas in green as a special edition.

The industry already thought of this, which is why they are currently pushing e-bikes so hard.

Hey guys, thanks for the several people who have PM'd me about getting tires, but I don't sell tires online.
I just thought everyone wanted a heads up about soon to be shipped tires, so I leaked the already leaked tire announcement.

You can have it in any (sidewall) color as long as it's black:

I guess it'll continue to be Vittoria Corsas for me.

If the price on 4000s drops...I will buy more of them as they seem to last under my 175 pound lard ass... (I am 5-10) and have had only one flat this year with them. The 25 mm tires make my Cervelo ride well over imperfect roads and seem to last a lot longer than Michelin Pros. YMMV.

Bike Tires Direct has the Conti 4000s on sale for $29.95 today. I'll try the 5000s some day, but the 4000s are simply too cheap for me to resist.

Dang, that is the same boat in which I am similarly finding myself.
Continental 4000s II tires have given me such good performance I will need to “bite the bullet” to try their latest.
The feature that is nice about that factory is it has historically been a meaningful change when launching a new version.

Lordgun has the 700x23 GP5000, $44.61 each + ~$15 shipping if somebody wants to try them and report back.

They have the TLR in stock too but quite a bit more expensive.

Lord Gun is a PITA, he is actually based in Italy with a .co.uk web address and slashes every price he can, most of his product is a lower spec OE product with a nice label on it.

I've bought a few things from Lordgun (and yes, italy) - no issues.

Including SMP saddles, which are quite difficult to fake.

I'd try the GP5000 but like others, I have a pile of GP4000 and they last forever (10,000 miles, 5000 on the front then rotating to the back for another 5000.)

Ok.... got a hold of a set of the GP5000 in 25mm. All I can say is WOW!!!

This tire really feels comfy and nice. In my opinion a huge improvement over the 4000. Now, too early to tell about durability and and such as I have only had them for a week or so.

But so far they have been super comfortable to ride on and I have (inadvertently) ridden over glass a couple of times.... no flats and no cuts so far. Will continue to report later...
