Anyone read "A Walk in the Woods"?

A fantastic read that had me laughing out loud on an airplane. I don't laugh out loud anywhere....but I did that day.

More people should read it. It's so good.

A Walk in the Woods is a fantastic book.

“But even men far tougher and more attuned to the wilderness than Thoreau were sobered by its strange and palpable menace. Daniel Boone, who not only wrestled bears but tried to date their sisters, described corners of the southern Appalachians as “so wild and horrid that it is impossible to behold them without terror.” When Daniel Boone is uneasy, you know it’s time to watch your step.”

This was a very cool story, with great pictures, in a general interest newspaper. Ignore the comments from the bike weenies telling the NYT and the author what they did wrong, or what they should have done, in great detail.

I need a picture of the bike to truly feel the story.

True, it's kind of abstract without it -- but I suspect that was done intentionally.

Agree, but the rest of these photos are breathtaking. I've long been a fan of NYT's site and how they handle photos, but man, these are incredible.

^ I love pictures of bikes, but I suspect that with a limited amount of space for pictures, the NYT photo editor said no—only bike people are interested in that, and the other 95% of readers are not.
