Geraint Thomas' Tour de France trophy was stolen. Of all the things to steal at a bike show, why this?

Yeah, quite the scumbag move to steal it to begin with and then profit off a black market sale.

However, I've never understood what compels someone to be the black market buyer for something like this. Even stolen paintings to a degree, (I suppose one could find subjective beauty in art as a prized possession, even if it was nicked?) but a trophy? Someone else earned it, you didn't come by it honestly, and you can only enjoy it by yourself or with other like-minded selfish narcissists unless you want to get found out. Lame as hell.
