View Full Version : I painted my shoes
My Giro Empire SLX have about 10k miles on them and while not in bad shape, I thought I could spruce them up a bit.
I'm pretty happy with the way these came out.
After shots soon.
I'm pretty happy with the fade.

Nice! You should go into business doing these, there are guys charging $300-400 here where I live doing the same...
Needless to say, their approach is a bit different. :)

Those look nice!! Great job!!
I like your paint a lot better than the plain white.
Will that paint be flexible enough for shoes?
Time will tell about the flexibility.

Looks pretty cool. Wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the spray can.

Nice!
While I haven't painted any shoes per-say, I do know that Angelus makes a product for this!

it's best to use leather/fabric paints. With a light spray you did, that may hold on but it will crack and flake off as you wipe them/clean them/etc
Love my Empire SLX's too, they are my fav shoes

My question is how do you do 10 000 miles and have your shoes still look so good?
I've got 4000 on a pair of shoes (another brand but still) and they are in rough shape I may get another season out of them.

They came out great. Wonder about the paint flexing as well. Keep us posted, please;)
I've done two rides since painting them, and so far so good.

Those look awesome. Now I really, really want to do this. Maybe I'll look at that shoe paint on Amazon for a weekend project...
Wow, a job well done! Might have to try something like this soon.

There is a good video if you want to do a simple weekend job
prep is the most important step
acetone (nail polish remover-is cheap and avail anywhere)
masking tape
brushes or airbrush

Reviving this thread for purposes of asking how the paint held up over a year of use? Any lessons learned, long-term recommendations?

Those shoes are almost as hip as Cipo's.
(I debated whether I should post the one where he's on the bike naked, but decide to go with this one instead.)

Huh, nice initiative, but I can't imagine that's gonna last more than a couple rides...

Very cool - Angelus paint might flex a little better.
Use something made for vinyl. It should hold up reasonably well.

The paint and the shoes held up reasonably. I sold them a few months back.
I will probably paint another pair of shoes in the spring.
