I am looking for a steel HT mt bike . It has been years since I rode a mt bike so not really sure about all the new stuff that is out there. My last one was a santa cruz superlite.
I found this dude out of colorado that has some stock sizes of both frames and completes. He uses Vari-wall triple butted tubes and the geo looks pretty relaxed.
I am seeing if there are any opinions on his builds and or bikes.
Here is the one I am looking at.

or this one

Looking at completes as opposed to frame.

If you live in south central PA, the last thing you need is a steel hardtail. Rocks are a thing

Unless you go slack steering, 120mm fork and plus wheels. Some of that is covered here, never heard of the brand

Michaux forever and all that

$3k gets you in the stumpjumper game, that is pretty decent in the woods around here. Fox, slx/xt, etc.

one of the grad students we used to ride with had an el Mariachi hardtail. He graduated, got a job, and bought a full squish mtb. None of us could keep up on the rocky trails after that. Almost has me convinced to get a full suspension bike.

Im getting to old to do all that rockey technical stuff in the area any more.
When I had the santa cruz and then a titus i did all that stuff but am over it now. Age is creeping in and its time to mellow out some but still I like to get out and ride on the trails.
So now I will be looking to do mainly state game/fire roads and stuff like that.
I do have/had a HT but like alot of things they end up at my sons house. He lives at the base of Michaux. I have ridden on ridge road and a few of the other main rodes in that area as well as alot of the bike trails.

So now I need something that I can call my own again.

I haven’t heard of Myth before your post, but the stock models look really good, and the prices seem excellent. Go for it!

Somewhat on topic, I am super happy with rigid Krampus and a full day in Michaux or Rothrock. I accept that I won't hit the descents as fast, but that's probably for the best.

I do like that Talos model that Myth offers though!

Nothing that impressive from what I can see. Rear end seems a tad long. If you were looking at something like that, I would rather get a Surly Karate Monkey or Krampus. Cheaper and will perform just the same. Another option is a fat bike. I run my Surly Pugsley with fat tire for winter and 29x3" for summer.

But if you are looking to do fire roads, would something like an All City Gorilla Monsoon fit the bill better?

That Talos does look good. I don't have any experience with them though.
What about the new Ritchey Ultra frameset? It has a tapered headtube and is $200 cheaper. https://us.ritcheylogic.com/us_en/ultra-frameset
