I've done quite a bit of searching on Shimano and elsewhere and can't seem to find the answer. Are the DA 9150 Di2 levers compatible with the Ultegra 8050 Di2 RD? Thanks.

Yes, I have 9170 shifters setup with an 8050 RD, works fine.

As answered above, it’s compatible

When in doubt consult the etube compatibility chart (link to latest version may be found on Carlton Bale’s website on Di2)

Everything DI2 on the road side that is 11sp is cross compatible. 6870, 8050, 9070 & 9150 can all be mixed and matched.

Compatibility goes even further for some shifter switches. I have a pair of "10s" 6770 shifters actuating a 6870 FD / 8050 RD setup. Also was able to get a 10s SW-R600 (climbing shifter) to operate the 6870F/8050R.

Thanks everyone! I knew the older stuff compatibility but just wasn't sure when they updated everything recently.

I thought Shimano had shut that door - that of 10sp DI2 mixing with 11sp? Have you done a firmware update since you hooked up the 6770 shifters to the derr's? If you haven't I would be reticent. You might find that your setup will no longer work.

Go to the link i posted. 6770 works with any 11-speed. Conversely, any 11-speed shifter works with a set of 6770 derailleurs
The shifters merely send a signal to shift up or down.

I thought Shimano shut the door on mixing 10 and 11 speed derailleurs. So no running a 6770 front with a 6870 rear anymore for an economical way to upgrade to 11 speed back when that was first released. Correct me if I'm wrong but that's what I recall.

Edit - didn't realize somebody also posted the same thing. Morning coffee still hasn't kicked in.

You can still mix 6770f and 6870r mechs if you have the right firmware (2.5.2, IRRC) and access to a PCE1 diagnostic tool. It is a bit complicated, but 6870r mechs are cheap right now and are definitely a viable way to upgrade an otherwise 10s Di2 kit to 11s.

I recall it not being as simple as it used to be. Shimano definitely shut down that easy 10sp -> 11sp upgrade avenue. Gotta protect their revenues.

Personally im surprised that they are magnanamous enough to allow 6870/9070 derailleurs to be paired with 8050/9150 derailleurs

Once you have the PCE1 tool and the right firmware file, it is a pretty straightforward job. Not simple, but not rocket surgery either.

If you dropped off box of 10s 6770 parts and a new 6870r mech, it would take about 30 minutes to have everything talking the same language.

They'll surely get around to blocking that too.
