Buddy of mine attempted this race a year or two ago. Said he would never try it again. Beat into submission around mile 85. Said it is ridiculously hard and he is a beast. Got lost a few times as the trail is poorly marked. Cool video on their site. Check it out.

that's a really impressive amount of climbing for Michigan. The Wilderness 101 has about 12000 feet. I have a dirt road 200k that I tried to get over 10k, and it was difficult.

Michigan can be pretty hilly. There is the Michigan Mountain Mayhem in June that has two routes with 7k and 10k of climbing. Northwest portion of Michigan is actually pretty hilly. Short, steep climbs, some approaching 20% And the U.P. can be quite hilly. Most people hear Michigan and think Detroit. Actually a very beautiful state. Winters suck though. Matthew

Just watched the video. What a cool event. I don’t think my knee would make it, let alone my head.

comments from local participants:

"I got 84 miles in (of 110) then dropped."

"I made it about 8 miles in before taking a trip to the ER."

"RAN 65 miles of it...on foot...on purpose."

"It’s awesome. Some of the most technical singletrack I’ve raced on."

absolutely true. the shorelines of michigan are on par with the best on the planet. longest total shoreline of any state in the lower 48. despite being a buckeye, i've come to appreciate michigan for being a wonderful place. also concur...the winters do indeed suck!
