More specifically, White Industries has plans to produce a 12-spline version of the micro spline freehub that's backwards compatible with most or all their prior hubs. The proper Shimano FH has 22 splines, but is exclusively licensed to DT Swiss right now (a move I strongly disagree with). No word on pricing for the freehub as an upgrade (the article states that an axle kit is also needed).
