View Full Version : Tubeless repair kit with road tubeless?

I know this will be a devisive topic, as road tubeless doesn't seem to be all that popular. I've really enjoyed Schwalbe Pro Ones for the last few years, probably have 7000 miles of riding on these tires (multiple sets, obviously). I've been very lucky with punctures, have only had a few in the later stages of a tire's life, and never had to put in a tube. In most cases, I'd lose about 15-20PSI and just keep riding (I inflate mine to 85PSI).

It would be nice to have a little extra security for larger punctures in case I ever get one. Has anyone used a tubeless repair kit (like Dynaplug, Geunine Innovations, etc.) with a road tubless setup? Or is a spare tube the only answer here?

I've used dynaplugs in both mtb and CX/gravel tires - it does what it says and its really good & easy to use. Good product.

I like Dynaplug racer. I dont think it will be an issue with road tires. I use it all the time for gravel tires.

Do you cut the ends off after you install? Seems like you would feel that on every rotation on a road tire.

Also, any concerns about the brass piece coming loose inside the wheel. I have carbon rims, would hate to cause damage.

Go with the Blackburn plug kit. The Dynaplug looks like a great product, but many times more the cost of the Blackburn with zero advantage.

I use the dynaplug kit that has a small knife to cut excess. The racer doesn't have that. In a few other saddle bags I have the plugs from Genuine Innovations. Inexpensive and also work well. I pack that kit up in an old race number along with an exacto blade and shove it in the saddle bag.

I have ridden 300 miles with the plugs loose in the tire on enve rims before I got annoyed with the sound.

Please explain why there is zero advantage when using dynaplug vs blackburn product.

I recently went tubeless and was less than impressed when I got a too-large for sealant cut in the rear on my second day. Stopped into a local shop, got the Panaracer repair kit and didn't notice it was for mtb until I got home. Tried it anyway, and I am back in the pro-tubeless camp. Quite impressed with the repair quality (basically, it worked, took about a minute, and I don't feel the repair when I ride)

I'm with joosttx on this one. I've used both. The dynaplugs are far easier and faster to use than the Genuine Innovations/Blackburn ones. Whether it's worth the extra cost is up to you. I have the Dynaplug micro on the bike in which I do most of my miles. If I had the coin, they'd go on all the bikes.

It looks like you can preload the Dynaplug tool with a plug, right? If so, it seems like it would be a little quicker than having to thread an anchovy/bacon on the other systems.

Yeah it is a lot quicker and a lot more successful. I tried the blackburn product and it was a mess or I was a mess to deal with. Either way I had very little success with it. I own two Dynaplug products, racer and the air. The air is amazing because it plugs a hole and inflates a tire all at the same time.

Holy sealant eruption, batman! Reminds me of a post I read one time about a guy who was trying to set up his fat bike tubeless, burst the tire, and said it looked like a whale had ejaculated in his basement.

Thanks for the feedback, Dyna seems like a solid product.

I have my Blackburn preloaded with a strip and never had an issue with it as your photo shows. For something like a plug kit I cannot justify the extra expense of the dynaplug. Different strokes..

Good feedback as well. My flats over the last year have been smaller holes, and I suspect either product would work. The Dynaplug seems like it would have a slight advantage in terms of securely plugging the hole, but I'm sure the strips would work fine, too. Just glad to know that I have options, and that they'll work on my road/cross/MTB bikes.

I carry a can of Vitoria Pit Stop for tubulars. Never had to use. Hope I remember how and that it works.
