Turn in other brand carbon wheels for $700 off new Enve wheels.

What will Enve do will a pile of old wheels?
refurbish, re-purpose, bonfire?

Not that the fate of the pile of old wheels is a concern to the customer who gets a $1000 discount, but I am simply curious.

that's interesting. says they must be in ride-able condition, so maybe they're donating them to a junior team or something...? or maybe that's more of "don't try to trade us your garbage towards new wheels."

pretty broad and forgiving policy though. for example, I have sold carbon wheels here or elsewhere that I definitely did not get $700 for; especially brands with less name recognition than Enve (Psimet, Boyd, Mercury, etc.). were I selling them with the intention of getting new Enve's, I would've made out well with this deal.

it's less forgiving if you've got a set of good condition Enve's that you're looking to upgrade though. those generally fetch over $1k.

Neato! This could be a way for me to get into a set that will actually stop, maybe.

This is so awesome as I was looking to buy a new wheel set to fall to replace my existing set

I'd guess that they are doing something more like selling them through The Pro's Closet or other 2nd hand equipment retailer.

Also let's them have a "sale" our "coupon day" without calling it a sale or discounting their wheel pricing.....

Can you trade multiple sets towards a new set? I’d hand over the two sets I have for some new disc wheels.

i mean their 3.4 wheelset is $2900. even if they give a $700 discount (which is a warmish 24%), i think they are still making a ton of profit because you are buying direct from ENVE. This way ENVE saves money by not selling to retailers.

oh, now they have your wheelset, which they can sell for $200? So, ENVE received $2900 - $700 + $200 = $2400 for their 3.4 wheelset. How much do you think ENVe sells their wheelsets for to retailers like backcountry? I'm sure it is for a LOT less than $2400.

yah?

But......the trade in option is also available through retailers......

Will hold out final determination until there's more information available. Usually trade in programs come with an Apple-like terms and conditions document, and I highly doubt the 700/1000 will be no questions asked baseline, but rather it's an "up to" amount.

True.

But I was analyzing for the scenario when one purchases directly through Enve. If I were to buy one, I would get one from Enve for no other reason except that they may maximize their profits. Nothing against retailers btw. I have experienced Enve's customer service and it had just been great. So, want to support them.

But you could be correct. The trade-up program might have lots of if's and but's. But this would make my case stronger that Enve would not be losing a ton of money especially if it is a "up to" scenario and especially if they only take certain wheels made after a certain year.

This is awesome news!

The question is, is it worth it to trade in if your wheelset is worth $1700 in the used market?

New Enve wheels @$3,000 - less $1000 trade-in = $2,000

Looks good in paper. What am I missing here?

I think it’s mostly about the current state of new bikes being sold with disc brakes. No way to use your old rim brake wheels on a disc bike, why not trade them in.

I have several rims which qualify, aren't being ridden, and I was planning on selling for less than $700... this is an interesting development

Maybe the program is an answer to Princeton Carbon Works' similar move?

Interesting. Mine are 4 years old. Warranty about to expire. Didn't even know there was a 4.5 option, now. Hmmm.

"Maybe the program is an answer to Princeton Carbon Works' similar move?" Do tell. Looked at their site, didn't see anything about a trade in offer.

Thanks!

"Up-to $1000/700" is the catch.

I remembered Apple doing this to me. A $90 trade-in value for my iPhone 6s +.

"$1000 for any ENVE carbon wheelset
$700 for any OTHER brand carbon wheelset"

I see no "up to" disclaimers

enve wheels are expensive enough that if they give you $700 for your old wheels, they will still make some money of the wheels. Also, its better to have a customer and make a little less than not have that person at all.

That’s because they deceptively throw it in after you are told you have the $1,000 credit which only gets returned after you send in your wheels.

I decided to check this out and when I filled out the information it told me I’d get $1,000 off for my enve wheels. It wasn’t until I started looking at wheels that the up to appeared. Needless to say I don’t really need another set of $2,800 wheels and I decided to back out...

ANOTHER set of $2800 wheels. Gotta love paceline!

But seriously the lack of "terms and conditions" on the initial page is troubling, and seems like it could engender more ill will towards Enve than goodwill if they'd decided to stick with the 1000/700 floor. Or worse yet, some sort of false advertising claim by a particularly persnickety esquire.

My $2800 wheels are up for $1050 shipped in the classifieds. I considered sending them in towards a disc set of the same wheels, but I have enough nice carbon disc clinchers already!

Seems like a good idea.... BUT what about if you have some Chris King hubs??? Might not be so worth it. Tempting..... very tempting!
