I’m thinking of changing the decal scheme on my Ti bike. Does Anyone know whether any paint shops do custom Ti anodizing or etching? Thanks

I’m no expert, but anodization is a chemical surface treatment, I believe it’s specific to aluminum. I believe you need vapor deposition for Ti, which is more like a coating. Look up PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition)

I’ve been thinking about giving this group a try with one of my bikes:

it's not[1]. you can take bare ti and run a current through it and it'll change colors. voila.

When I ordered a Firefly a few years ago, had an informative exchange with Kevin about anodization. It seems that the Holy Grail remains red-- and so far there is no way to anodize Ti in red (I opted for red paint in the dropout windows). The Firefly guys are masterful anodization artists. Cruise their Instagram feed and website gallery (https://fireflybicycles.com/bike-terrain/road-ti/)for examples.

Leni Fried is the original for this stuff AFAIK. Cannot go wrong. Loved the old Fat Chance stuff she did.

That is that some awesome work she does. There's a lot a gallon of awesome sauce in the pictures This makes me want to get another titanium bike just to have her to some magic with it. Fortunately for wallet, I'm expecting that feeling to go away once I think more about how much money that would be.

Not just "so far", it's literally against the laws of physics to anodize ti in red. The wavelength is half that of blue. If you get red you must also get blue, resulting in magenta.

I acquired a good amount of scrap ti, I just need a power supply and some free time to teach myself the basic techniques. If you want to be a guinea pig for me hit me up, I'm based in Brooklyn right now. Free but risky! (worst case you can scotch pad it off)

Thanks much for all the suggestions. Looks like Engin Cycles in Philly can do it. They re not too far from where I live so I’ll take it to Drew.

Please post pics when done! That’s not far from me either and I got an old Merlin waiting for something like this.

Has anyone seen how Firefly actually applies the multicolored artwork? Is it a series of conductive stencils they apply a voltage to?

I have an ancient Moots that has (faded) anodization. I called them about it way back when and they said it might have been OEM. Love to get it restored, but Moots redo is only bead blast and decals these days.
