Has anyone used a crankset with an oversize (30mm) spindle in a standard english threaded bb with Di2 wiring? Just wandering if there is enough space for the wires between the protective bottom bracket sleeve and the inside of the shell. I'm considering one of the Praxis 46/30 Zayante carbon cranks for my wife's gravel kirk.

I recently gave this a try on the Spectrum. It was an Easton EC90SL crank (30mm spindle) and decided it was too tight even w/o the bb sleeve. It looked like I'd shear the wires pushing the crank spindle through. Ended up using a Sugino OX901D compact with 46/30 rings. https://alexscycle.com/products/sugino-ox901d-compact-plus-crankset

The Haanjo carbon frame with a standard BSA works as there is a large cavity around the BB shell area. Not the case with a traditional BB shell.

We tried this a few years ago with Rotor cranks for a powermeter. It was very close and it looked like it was only a matter of time before they'd rub through the wire so I pulled them.

Thanks. I pretty much figured it would be a no go but thought I would check.

you can but you'll have to do some customs DI2 cables
if you want it to be safe

Check this french forum he did this to use a clavicula with 30mm axle
on a moots compact RSL with bsa

It's a long thread and I don't read French. I see this pic: http://reho.st/view/self/aaec996b07231b54a656ff6829a00b32ffce1ac7.jpg

What did he do to shield the wires from the spindle? It would have saved me a lot of money.

I run a Praxis Zayante M30 crankset in a BSA bottom bracket with Di2 wiring running around it. Haven't had any issues. I've got room enough for the wires to move around a bit in there.

What frame and material?

The rough I.D. of an English BB is 34 mm....so if you put a 30 mm spindle in there this will leave about 2 mm clearance between the shell and spindle. Not enough to safely fit the wire in.

I am having this issue with my eewings. Could the cable harness be stripped at the bottom bracket area and use each individual (thinner) cable for better clearance? I think it would work

To answer my own question, I just finished installing a eewings crankset on my Firefly which comes with a BSA bb so it actually works w/o issues. . You need to be extra careful stripping the harness though -- I used liquid tape to seal to protect the cables again, but in a flat profile which gives me the clearance I need.

I'm sure that this discussion is about metal bottom bracket shells, but Specialized has started to use BSA threaded bottom brackets in their carbon frames. I have one of these frames, and there is plenty of room to run mechanical cable hosing with a 30mm spindle cranks.

I wonder if internal cabling was the idea behind the bulged bottom bracket in the Columbus Cento tube set?
