I remember him best for his work on ESPN's coverage of the 1989 World Championships.

Jesus. Bad day for cycling. Sorry to hear that; having Drebber announce meant that your race had “made it” for a good long time in the 80s and 90s. Condolences to his family.

When I was a teenager, he was big in Virginia cycling. I somehow managed to get a ride with him to a race in Maryland, we stayed with his parents. I was really happy when I turned on the TV years later and there he was announcing. Such a great guy, this is very sad.

He was the big-voice announcer of the Coors Classic herein Colorado in the ‘80s.

Oh man, Brian Drebber, James Brown, and Adrian Karsten (a WI native!). All names and voices that helped form my love of the sport when I was a kid. All three had a depth of knowledge and and analysis of the sport that was light years ahead of what Phil and Paul were up to at the time. Very cool stuff.
