Gravel/light dirt riding and paint protection?

Just wondering - do people bother w/ any sort of paint protection film or other measures when "groading"? Especially w/ a paint job on a steel frame that one is rather fond of?

I use the ISC Racer's Tape (fourth one down). Easy to cut, shape and apply. I use it on chainstay and housing rub spots as well.
