My 10+ year old smart wool are looking very sad and it’s time to replace.

The newer smart wool PhD versions have fallen apart quickly with holes or tearing so I’m looking for a different brand to try.

I’ve also tried darn tough which are fine quality wise but a little thicker than I prefer.

Only looking for below the ankle ideally, the ones that barely stick out of the shoe as I find them more comfortable here in very hot arizona.

Very thin, no padding, low cut...doesn’t need to be wool.

Like low$ for a bunch at Target.

dont have a no-show rec -- cough not a triathlete cough ;) -- but what low/high socks have you tried?

i always find that my legs FEEL sweatier when I wear a lower sock, purely because there is no material there to absorb and evaporate the sweat.

if youre looking for a thin/nice sock, ive always enjoyed rapha pro team socks. toe seams are very minimal and the material is surprisingly durable considering how thin they are.

they dont, however, come in a "no-show" variety...

I never understood paying top $$ for socks. Walmart, Target or Kohls if mama has a coupon.

2 words - toe seams

nothing worse than having some big seam-lump smashed into the side of your toes/foot for 10 hours...

Try Feetures Elite Ultra Light No Show (https://feetures.com/collections/all-mens-socks/products/elite-ultra-light-no-show-tab-sock?variant=1139677528083) socks. I've worn these for both running and mountain biking.

In Arizona, sweat actually evaporates. Sometimes it feels as though it is evaporating before it even leaves your pores.

I've been using very thin Goretex socks since I started back cycling. I don't see them around anymore--probably a failed experiment, but they were thin, low, quite elastic so they didn't bunch and are incredibly durable.

They were just high enough to come up past the tongue of the shoe.

I hate the feeling of soggy cotton socks anytime--and these don't feel super-soft, but they also feel the same at the end of the ride as at the beginning. I don't like the bare foot in the shoe feeling.

Winter/colder weather I switch to the thinnest wool sock--I think I have some Smartwool and some others.

This (http://www.velominati.com/the-rules/#27) and this (http://winnipegcyclechick.com/thoughts-on-socks/).

While I despise blind rule-following, my experience is that the rules on socks are on the mark.

Thorlo running socks. Used to pick them up at the local sporting goods store, sigh,... all of them have gone the way of the dodo. Now pick them up at the interweb retail monopoly. Definitely not cheap, but they last. These are NOT thin, and they have padding/reinforcements in all the right places. Thin on top.

I've migrated from wool to Coolmax. I feel it keeps me drier.

Darn Tough Vertex (Coolmax), the non cushioned version, are my go-to for long rides this year.

The cushioned version are okay for short rides, but I find that the non-cushioned keep my toes that much drier.

Didn’t know darn tough had non wool socks. Those look perfect. I’ll try a few pairs!

Word of caution when ordering...

The Vertex has merino versions, Coolmax versions, cushioned versions, non cushioned, and combinations of the above.

I've mistakenly stumbled across all of the variants when ordering.

Call me a triathlete if you must, but I'm with the OP on liking the low no-show socks. The roll-top are a second choice.

I just use the cheap 12-packs (I think current branding is "And1") and don't worry about keeping them matched. And since I don't wear suits or for that matter even rarely even wear "business casual", they suffice for pretty much all occasions.

I applaud you for doing this anonymously.

Get these:

I wear the longer version. You'll feel as if you're going sockless without any loss of comfort. It's amazing how lightweight they are and yet perform as a sock, ie, your cycling shoes won't fall off your feet.

The Aspire is very hard to beat for a great cycling sock. I am partial to the four inch variant but I do have some ones and no-see versions for casual wear.

Regular multi-pack mostly cotton crew socks have been good enough for me since a I was a young'un and I don't plan to change now. (I use wool hiking socks when it gets nippy out.) But then I'm old and weird.

Now get off my lawn.

Funny--our racing association BITD (with a lot of Brits involved) was still enforcing the 'white socks only' rule when I was racing in the early '70s...

I've been using these for cycling and running for several years now. They last forever.

Swiftwick Pursuits get my vote. Wool is tough to beat for sweaty feet. :)

I already have ridiculous tan lines on my arms and thighs, I don’t need yet another.

Besides monsoon weeks, i rarely have sweat. It just turns to salt, and the more sock the more salt...

Yes, major +1.
No long socks for me, I prefer the look, feel, and lack of tan lines from low cut socks.

I have two pair of Darn Tough, one thats thin like what you're looking for and one that's thicker and more padded. I prefer the thin one, wish I knew what they actually called it.

DeFeet Wooleators are great but then again I don't do the super-shorty sock thing... mine end a couple of inches above my ankles.

Swiftwick is great as well, with some compression.

See 'pro length'...

I don't wear triathlete socks, but my go-to is the Swiftwick Aspire Four, so I would imagine that the Swiftwick Aspire Zero is just as good.

I’ve found the longer socks to be much more difficult to put on for the ride home.

Sounds like a triathlete to me...

Smithwick recommendation also. I get them from Amazon. There are many "models" mine come up over the ankle are very thin and fit well. Last a long time too, don't bunch up.

I am a fan of Swiftwick Aspire as well, all lengths. I should add that the zero or no show sock is not a triathlete sock . . . they don't wear socks!!
