I designed and built this bike rack. It is made of hard maple, aluminum tubing, and stainless steel fasteners. It holds 5 bikes facing alternately. No bike disassembly required. Bikes are held in place with a long bungie cord. Only the tires come in contact with rack. I found a soft topper to cover the bed which allows me to easily remove it when not in use. I have used this setup for biking trips to Colorado, Virginia, Idaho, and the Black Hills. I also use the rack without the topper to do day trips to rides all around. The bike rack had to also pass the use test of my wife and her friends when they use it on their rides. I looked for a long time for a rack solution and finally designed and built my own.
