sierra nevada team bikes

i noticed at the tour de gawgiah that some of the sierra nevada team bikes were coeur d' aciers and not legends. does anyone (particularly any lurking administrators) know why certain riders chose those over the legends? i found it particularly uplifting and refreshing to see steel being raced at the highest level.

I do believe that the cda's are the training/ backup bikes , at least that's what someone posted earlier.
